The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
An Active Rain friend, Rich Iarossi, was kind enough to mail me this book. Rich is a fellow Italian, A dog lover, a reader and a great Realtor in Crofton, MD. I called to thank him and his response was that when he finished it he wondered who he knew that both loves dogs and loves to read! He said I was top of the list. This is a wonderful book and just reinforces what I've learned in the two years since I have been a dog owner. There is simply nothing better in life that having a dog. I have many things that I love in my life, my precious children, my garden, my books, my cherished friends, but out of all of the things that bring me joy, sitting quietly with my dog, walking my dog, playing fetch with my dog, are among the best moments of every day for uncomplicated bliss. Dogs are simply God's most perfect creation, giving all and asking for little. Their only fault is that these wonderful and loving creatures do not live forever. We can learn a lot from dogs and this book was a beautiful lesson in love. My deepest thanks to Richard Iarossi for sending this lovely gift my way.

Karen, it's time for a re-read!
Jon, the dog's owner is a young man in the beginning of the book with aspirations to be a race car driver. Throughout the book are analogies from the racing world that correspond to life in general.
Susan-That sounds like an excellent book. I am a dog lover myself. My mom has a 2 yr old westie who is a spoiled cutie. My last dog I owned myself was a shepherd name Muffy who was spoiled and people laughed I named her Muffy but I loved her. She is in dog heaven now.
Here is a pic of my big baby from years ago.
Happy Halloween!!!
P.S. Here is a link to the Rainbow bridge where all pets go when they die. I am just one of many pet owners who believe this 100%.
Thanks for the review, Susan! I think I will have to check this one out since I have two four-legged children! Thanks for always sharing your world with us!!!
Hi Susan! This would make a wonderful gift for my daughter! Timely post too.....I was just making a list of gift possibilities.
Sharon, thanks for the link and sharing Muffy with us. xxoo
Leesa, you'll love it.
Jon, :-)
Ann, It would make a wonderful gift! xxoo
Sounds good. I cannot imagine the day when I walk in the front door and Mikey is not there to greet me. He is 11 and starting to show it.
Virginia, I know exactly what you mean. They mean so much to us and add so much to our lives.
Hannah, they are wonderful! I have made some wonderful friends here.
Jersey... pfffttt! I will hunt you down and force you to reinstate me.
Hi Susan...My book club (Book Buddies) meets this Tuesday and I will recommend this as a possibility. I looked at a review and believe we will enjoy it.
Your endorsement is enough for this Irish girl. Did I ever tell you my daughter was born in Italy?
Kate
Kate, I think you will love it! Anyone who has ever loved a dog will love it. I think you did tell me your daughter was born in Italy. That makes you guys more Italian that I, since I've never been there!
Did you dress JJ up for halloween? Summer was a Banana Split! she wore the costume the entire day, but did not like the hat part, it was the pointy end of the banana that made her look more like a cone head than a Banana anyway!
Susan,
I didn't see this the other day and I was with the grandson all day yesterday. Thanks for the shout out. Reading your posts about JJ...you were the only name that came to mind. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I certainly did.
Rich
Susan that was very nice of Richard to send you that book. Might have to check out the book myself. Great post.
Susan thanks for the review-I am definitely adding to my list. How nice of Richard to send to you!
I am so sorry I didn't see some of these comments earlier! Robby, no, I didn't dress us JJ. Another opportunity missed!
Rich, I loved the book and I love you for thinking of me!
Lanre, Richard is a gem!
Debra, Richard is a prince among men! And Italian. So... perfect!
I loved that book, too, Susan. I originally picked it up for my Book Club, but found that I couldn't put it down. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, as well!
Sounds like a wonderful book! Will get it soon! Pets are part of our family!
