A couple days ago at a local coffee shop I bumped into a young attorney who I had met at a board meeting a few weeks before.
We exchanged greetings and a little light hearted conversation while waiting for our coffee. Needless to say the conversation soon changed to real estate and he confessed that he was having a tough go of it getting his business established.
He wants to focus his practice on Real Estate Law and he knew that I had been in the brokerage and appraisal end of the business since slightly before the Magna Carta. It became obvious that he wants to do what is right with the highest level of integrity and he needed some words of wisdom from an old dog.
We discussed how I got into the business and I offered him suggestions on how to become established in the community including becoming an active Affiliate Member of our local Board of Realtors. I also offered some names of lenders who have an established high level of integrity that he should contact.
We must have chatted for an hour or so and parted both knowing we had just made a new friend we could count on. I also realized how easy it is to forget how much you know and how valuable it is to share your knowledge.
