Welcome Back Juncos!

Ken Thomas photo Today I saw my first Junco of the season!  As a bird lover, I take notice to some details of comings and goings of birds and today was a treat to see my first Junco in my back yard!  I truly enjoy the fact that they choose to hang out at my place for the winter after a long migration from the north.

Their arrival also offers a deeper connection to the changing of the seasons that only a migratory bird can offer.  Over the winter there will be a group of them that hang out and feed together. Then in the spring there will be a day when I notice that they are all gone. Until then I will enjoy their presence at my feeder.

Welcome back - Time keepers of the seasons!

Doug and Gloria, your bird photo is just beautiful!  It's always a challenge to get a bird to pose long enough to get a photo this beautiful.

Craig, Thanks, the profile picture will change after Halloween.  Had fun at a party!

Pat, Yes I have the same challenge as you.  I guess I should have made it more pronouced that this is a photo by Ken Thomas, who generously allows others to use his photos.  I wish I had a better camera.  One of these days.

Thanks for stopping by!

Gloria - Congratulations on attracting the juncos to your feeder. What kind of seed do they prefer?

Hi Suzanne, I use the mixed seed so I'm not sure which ones they actually go after. They are ground feeders mostly.  I enjoy seeing them in the snow.

Do you feed the birds?  Your dog might like watching them from the window!

Thanks for stopping by.
