Are You Still Buying Products Made in China????

How would you know?  After the media scare of Chinese drywall, Chinese electrical wiring, Chinese steel, Chinese milk, Chinese dinnerware with lead, Chinese food products, Chinese dog food...are you still buying cheap, even with all the warnings.  Americans have short memories, buy cheap mentality, no common sense and they don't read. I sound really negative, don't I?  I taught high school English for thirty years and I continue to work with students and I am continually amazed at the words that come out of their mouth; undoubtedly, their parents don't have a clue.

...or is it really their fault?  After the scare of the past few years, there have been changes. Chinese manufacturers know that "Made in China" is a negative.  I have always been careful to not buy Chinese products but I noticed lately the labels may say "Distributed in America"...but the bar codes were funny.  I did some research and I found that many products no longer say where they are manufactured but they do have bar codes that match the country.  Have we been sold out by our government?  Is there an intent to deceive?  I don't know but stick these little codes in your pocket to be sure you are not poisoning your family.  Pay attention especially in Walmart.  If the first 3 numbers on the bar code is #690, 691, 692 ...the product is made in China. #471 Taiwan. #00-09 USA and Canada...#30-37 made in France, #40-44 Made in Germany, #49 Japan, #50 UK.  You owe it to your family to do your own research.

Isn't it interesting that we have to provide a signed document about lead poisoning for homes built prior to 1978 but our governments allows products to be sold containing lead with no warning or testing to show levels.  Am I exceptionally paranoid?  Maybe, but my sons own a tea shop in Raleigh and I searched company after company for BPA free tea accessories for their store and children's tea sets that were food safe.  It was hard to find those products. I no longer use plastics for food storage.

Why do you say that the government allows products to be sold containing lead with no warning or testing to show levels. It doesn’t. There have been many, many product recalls over the past year because of lead in the product. It’s the Chinese government that allows products to be sold with lead in them. Check the Consumer Products Safety Commission web site for lead recalls.

I agree with everything you are saying but don't you agree that it is only when someone dies or a child gets sick or the problem becomes so global that a recall goes into effect. What about the people who have already ingested the product. I know our government cannot police every product and I don't know what the answer is, either but how many of our citizens are even going know to check Consumer Products...or when a national news program featured a hidden camera of fish farms in China...why did the government not ban fish from that country unless it was accompanied by an independent lab certification. The US government can't dictate to them but certifications would help.

I think I am a safe shopper but recently, I bought a product for my new grandson.  The night light didn't work so I went to the manufacturers website to see if I could order a new one.  The whole unit was not recalled; the manufacturer simply said there is a design safety issue...please remove the wedge inset...that was the whole point of buying a sleep positioner.
