Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food FestivalAustin's First - Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival

It's a well known fact that Austin, Texas is culinary hotspot and home to all sorts of incredible markets, restaurants and all things food oriented. Our city is on the cutting edge of one the newest trends now sweeping the nation, "Food Trailers". By food trailers I am not referring to run of the mill hotdog stands, taco joints or the ubiquitous construction site "roach coaches" but something completely different. Many culinary school trained chefs, restaurant cooks and aspiring foodies have taken the trailer concept to a much higher level. By applying advanced cooking skills with locally sourced, fresh ingredients, imaginative concepts and a creative fusion of styles, a new culture of delectable dining at a fair price has developed. Currently there are several hundred new food trailers in Austin selling all sorts of unusual and delectable goodies to hordes of people seeking something new and different! I recently wrote about the nationwide acclaim by one of Austin's best known trailers, The Mighty Cone not only a wildly popular local trailer but far and away the best seller at Austin's famous Austin City Limits Music Festival.

November 6th from 11am to 8pm there will be a gathering of thirty (30) of Austin's very best food trailers at Auditorium Shores to celebrate the first Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival! Admission is FREE with all of the trailers featuring sample portions for $3 or less so that you can sample as many of the eclectic indulgences as possible. Also on hand, there will be live music all day featuring a half dozen bands cranking out some might fine music! For complete information, click on the link Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival. If you like, you can plan ahead and create your own custom dining menu of food trailers by clicking on the link Food and Music Menu to customize your experience, (There will also be vegetarian and/or vegan options). One of the best ways I've found to experience an event like this is to follow it on Twitter @gypsypicnic and since I will be there "most" of the day at http://twitter.com/russellmlewis People who know me or follow my blog REALIZE I love to eat so come on out and join me to enjoy the opportunity to experience all of these trailers and some great music in one place!

Hey Russell,

I just got home from this cool new event! I looked for you today. I went to the Gypsy Picnic after the American Diabetes Walk today. We had a tasty lunch (tapas style at several trailers) and heard some great live music. I looked for you, but you must have been in disguise...

PS. Kudos on the photo and mention in the Realtor magazine this month. You are a total rock star in Austin Real Estate!!

Cheers,

Betina

Hi Russell!  I just popped over to read your NOVEMBER posts and realized that I didn't comment on this one!!  I read it but, didn't comment!

When I see your Austin events posts, I'm reminded just how similar our areas are--more so than any other area in the country.  I guess we're leading parallel lives in two distant states!!

Hope you're well and getting that remodeling job underway!  I can't wait for the before, during and after posts!!  (Come on, you know you want to share this process here in the Rain!!!)

I love food posts except in the evenings that I am TRYING to NOT EAT.

I can smell the food as I read this.

My tummy is growling.

There should be a warning at the top of all food posts.  :)

Sad... there are just some things that living in the rural south I will never experience.  I think I might have to come to Austin if they make this festival annual.

Russell,

I missed this one when you first posted it!  I knew nothing about these food carts!  Everything slowly moves this way from out West, so I suppose it will be sever years before we see these in Indiana.  May be just as well.  I do not need more temptations!!

Russell, this must have been a  fantastic event. BTW while I was in Europe I heard that there is a big controversy the "gypsies" do not like being called that, since it has negative connotations, such as life of living off illegal ways, hence they are now calling themselves "Roma" thought you might like this little trivia:))
