5 Top Reasons to sell during the Holidays

By
Real Estate Agent with Realty Executives Bayou Properties BROK.0912123349-ASA

I usually hear from many sellers a reluctance to place their home on the market during the holiday season. I would say the biggest concern they have is being inconvenienced during this time of year. Next would be the misconception that buyers do not look during November through December. The truth is that this festive time of year can offer the seller wonderful opportunities. Below are some of the top reasons to have your property on the market during the holidays.

1. Less homes are on the market this time of year which equals less competition for you the seller.
2. Serious buyers look during the holidays.
3. Shoppers do buy homes as Christmas presents.
4. Buyers shopping this time of year will choose a home normally in under 60 Days.
5. Homes are purchased on emotion. Do you think your property decorated for the holidays invokes an emotional response?

David, that SERIOUS buyer one is the one I hear a lot. The market is what the market is, and if you want to sell your house ANYTIME put it on the market.

Great list, especially the part about being decorated for the holidays.

David - you are absolutely right about this. If a serious seller price their property right, does not matter what season, a serious buyer will come and buy the property.

So true!  I too think that the serious buyer is looking during the Holidays and therefore what you say above perhaps applies.  Thanks for the post and the tips today.

David,

And, don't forget about commercial real estate. There may be many tax advantages associated with completing a transaction by 31 December, rather than the 1st of January.

David  - All you said is simply true. Agents and sellers who don't think they'll sell during the holidays - usually don't.

Hi David -- Exceptional advice.  I hope a lot of sellers read this as these points are often not well understood.  People are generally in a better mood around the holidays as well.

I agree, homes can be more inviting with the holiday decorations, and people are generally in a good mood.  And serious too if they're out during the holidays when there's so many other things to do!

Excellent post! I just had a seller tell me that yesterday...they wanted to take the home off of the market until after the holidays. True, there are less buyers out there during this time of the year but the ones that are....are serious!
