Social Media Day Off

By
Real Estate Agent with Independent Contractor

I am curious as to how others might feel about this so I thought I would ask the question.  Well actually I thought of it when my wife commented that she now rarely sees me without my Blackberry and I am reading or chuckling at something on this little screen.

How would you feel about a scheduled social media day off?  This would be an entire day, 24 hours, without your smart phone (except for voice communications) and your computer except for real business.

You would decide what day of the week or month this would be.  On this day you would socialize face to face with your internet friends and family.  This could take place at a ball game, a community event or a gathering at the local watering hole.  Or spend it with your family.

Do you think that this is a good idea?  Bad idea?  Doesn't matter or isn't worth the effort.  Most of all do you think you could do it?

Also, if you decided to take the "Social Media Holiday" what would you do with it?

I am looking forward to hearing or seeing your comments.

Have a great day.

Dave, there's a very good reason they call it a Crackberry.  Iphone, Android, Ipad, it doesn't matter.  I don't think most of us can stay away for a day.

It's very hard.  I try to take Sunday's off from these things.  Unfortunately, I am addicted.  I knew I was in trouble when my daughter had to ask me not to answer my phone during dinner.  My family should never suffer because a client wants me to be at their beck and call.

I haven't taken a complete day off from it yet, but I may try soon.  My problem is that I supervise 50 agents and they use social media a lot to communicate.  Maybe I will just send everyone an email and let them know that on Sundays use voicemail if they need me.

As I said my wife brought it to my attention that I had my BB in my had all the time.  It is tough to get away you always feel you might miss something, but really what is so important anyway.

My friend Jeff Turner takes every Sunday off, and Saturday evening he informs everyone that he is signing off.

Thank you both for your comments.  At least I know that I am not alone out here.

YIKES! When I smoked, I did the smoke free day so I guess (said in a very pouty, please don't make me voice) I could do this too. :O(

I quit smoking but I don't wanna quit the social network thing! :O( LOL :OD

Joni all I can say is that if it isn't intruding into your life to the point of addiction then I guess you are OK.  However, very soon we may need to set up Social Media Anonymous.  Now we need to come up with a 12 step program.  I nominate you to head up this commitee.

I call that day SUNDAY and I watch NASCAR * my idea of the social "disconnect" is NOT wearing my bluetooth ear piece for my cel phone.  I try not to do that on the weekends!
