The county launched a new program on October 21, 2010, to help improve the parks even more by trying to involve the community and create a sense of community pride. The program is called Adopt-A-Park and it is aimed at encouraging groups to sign up to help keep the parks pristine.
Adopt-A-Park is targeting groups that want to help make the community and neighborhood they live and play in better. A current project that the program is in need of is the removal of a group of Cedar trees at Champion Park. The trees were removed years ago and have once again regrown. This would make a quick project for a group to tackle. It would be quicker for a group to complete this project than for the park staff to finish it.
Adopt-A-Park also has some other future projects in mind for wiling groups, such as planting speciality grasses or helping lead awareness on Dino Day. A group will be required to participate for a year, and in that year attend at least four major events. The groups are responsible for organizing the volunteers along with recording the number of hours they volunteer.
