Would e-Signatures Change The Way We Do Business?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Dynasty

In real estate there are a lot of documents that need to be signed. Many times we need to set an appointment to meet up with the client so they can sign them or have them faxed or emailed to them to sign then scan and send back to us. Digital signatures is suppose to save us the hassle by just having the clients click on a link from the auto generated email where a digital signature is created for them and they can just click to have it signed. Quick and easy.

I signed up with Docusign about 2 months ago after hearing from a few agents mentioned they were able to close a few deals while at the beach with his family by sending documents to them and have them digitally signed them. Nice. If this would save one trip to the client, the time and cost would be worth it. Yet not every agent is using it because it cost money, too complicated, etc.

What is interesting is that the California Association of Realtors (CAR) recently announced that starting January 2011, CAR would provide unlimited e-signatures on ZipForm free. Suddenly the cost and complication are gone. Would more agents use e-Signatures? Possibly. Would we save more trees? Would it make the transactions faster and smoother? Could there be more fraud from identity thefts stealing the email accounts and adding the e-signatures? There would be changes but only time will tell if for better or worst.

DocuSign has truly changed the way I do business.  I do have a few clients that cannot/will not use it as well as a few agents that will not accept it.  But other listing agents I've worked with get so spoiled by it that they begin to expect documents to be signed the same day they send them over!

I have not signed up for this yet; however, I have had a number of agents that have told me they love it.  Anything that can save me some time is a welcome consideration.  I plan to sign up this week,

We have been using docusign for over a year in our office...I am a big fan...a few lenders (seems to be based on underwriter) haven't accepted it...I still endorse it....worst case is you sign listings and addendums and the original P & S and if you have to follow up with an original, fine...

We have used DocuSign since 2006.  I can't imagine going back to the "old" way of doing business.

Docusign saves time and the drive! I love using docusign as it simplifies getting the required signatures. Clients love it since all they need to do is click click click.

Tni: I also have a few clients who refused to use esignatures. So had to do the old fashion way.

Barbara: It does save some time and convience.

Michelle: Hopefully it bring you great results.

I really like DocuSign, and that's a great proactive step by CAR. One glitch is that not all banks accept electronic signatures. That needs to change.

John, I believe CAR is going with eSignature that belongs to ZipLogic that also owns Zipforms. My understanding is that eSignature and Docusign are competing brands. I might still keep Docusign for my other non-real estate businesses.
