Lake Tillery and the Uwharrie Mountains are part of the Uwharrie National Forest. The forest has approx. 50,369 acres covering 78.7 sq. miles. Montgomery County is home to about 79% of this acreage. It also claims territory in Randolph and Davidson counties.
While the Uwharrie Mountains still offers panning for gold as a popular activity, Lake Tillery and Badin Lake also offers fabulous water sports, fishing, trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding.
