Musings of a Realtor on the Changing Market

By
Real Estate Agent with CENTURY 21 All Islands

Someone would have to be living in a cave, or under a rock, to not be aware of the transitioning of the Hot Real Estate Market. Indeed, this Neverending Story has begun a new chapter. We all knew the day would come, when business would stop falling from the sky like manna from heaven, when we Real Estate Professionals would have to begin to earn the right to be addressed as such.

As in any situation which changes from the desirable to the less than desireable, we all kept hoping that this inevitable change would remain a merely uncomfortable feeling, only a nagging thought. Each morning we would awaken once again and find that the day of reckoning had yet to dawn, thankfull it had not yet come, and perhaps subconciously allowing ourselves to revel in a mysterious sense of relief.

No longer, my friends! The New Age has begun! Yes, the day we all knew would someday arrive is upon us. For those who have been in the Real Estate Profession through other eons and cycles, the salivary glands are becoming active, in anticipation of the feast to be had on the unwary, the feeble young who were born in the excessive bounty of this fading springtime of prosperity. For those who had the wisdom and foresight to prepare for these times, anxiety intermixed with hope for survival creates the uneasy excitement and anticipation of the challenges ahead. Like a boxer moving up from the amatuer ranks, newer Agents who have done well are eager to test themselves against the more experienced professionals in the 'normal market' arena.

Then there are the old farts like me, a sense of melancholy that always comes with the changing of the seasons, not so much a sense of awe as one of familiarity, and acceptance. Please forgive me if I wear a slight smirk while I whistfully muse to myself, thankful that Nature will bless the strong, weed out the weak and incompetent, and assure that the future population of our species will be stronger, heartier and worthy of survival. Long live the Real Estate Professional!

Wow Mike you should have been a poet!

I have mixed feeling about the changing market.

  • On one hand I will miss the fast exciting pace.
  • On the other hand I will miss all those part timers who have been tinkering in real estate as they flee the industry at license renewal time.
