NORTH WILLAMETTE ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®
ANNUAL AWARDS DINNER – 2010
November 4, 2010
The stars were shining bright last week at the North Willamette Association of Realtors (NWAR) annual awards dinner and installation of officers.
“I feel very privileged to introduce this year’s Realtor of the Year recipient, Walt Wood.
He has been married to his wonderful wife Marcia for 43 years and is the proud father of two beautiful daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer. They have given him 3 granddaughters and 1 grandson that he delights in.
Walt began his professional career in banking; serving many years as VP of Woodburn US Bank and was later promoted to Senior VP of US Bank’s Ladd and Bush Branch in downtown Salem.
Walt is well traveled and enjoys the unique distinction of being one out of every 1.5 million people in the world to have set foot on all 7 continents. I shiver just remembering the photos of his Antarctica trip, where he swam with the Penguins.
Walt is a genuinely humble man, who has not only served his country for 3 years in the Navy but also, following his commitment to his faith he has served at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, chairing the Parent’s Club Foundation and Annual Auction.
Over the years he has served his expanded community as volunteer or committee member for: Muscular Dystrophy, Oregon Lung Association, City’s Budget, Recreation & Parks, and local WACT TV Cameraman, just to name a few.
He heads the tax preparation for local low income seniors project. He is a one-on-one hospice worker, dedicating his time to visiting lonely seniors. He has contributed countless, selfless hours and many more commitments that have long been forgotten.
This is not why we honor Walt tonight, but rather for his commitment to the North Willamette Association of Realtors (NWAR) and his many friends and associates in the real estate industry.
Walt was licensed in 1994. He has served on the professional standards committee, been a productive member of Hallmark Properties since 1998, with a two year exception when he was a Commercial Principal Broker in Salem.
Walt Wood has been a past board member for NWAR. He has been the tax preparer at no charge to NWAR for 4 years or more. He has served as the Secretary-Treasurer for about a decade, although his wife Marcia swears it seems like two. He has been a great member and asset to the board and membership by giving sound financial and business advice and in helping to chart the direction for NWAR.
It is therefore my great honor on behalf of his many friends and colleagues to introduce to you this evening, the 2010 North Willamette Association’s, Realtor of the Year: Mr. Walt Wood.”

The group also honored “Realtor Reality” award winners. These are nominations sent in by area professionals and are usually sent in anonymously.
“Terry is upbeat, full of life, and always has a kind word for everyone. He has a positive approach to whatever he does including crabbing, fishing, Beaver games, Real Estate and his family.”
Terry is truly a light in the community and never has an unkind word to say. He gives an enormous amount of time as the NWAR President and cares a great deal about our industry and the other professionals he works with.

Going Above & Beyond for a Client
“They held a very difficult closing together which included tracking down and gathering signatures from a seller who was in the Oregon State Penitentiary. This closing also required many, many phone calls to locate an underlying lien holder who needed to sign off on the reconveyance. He was discovered in a Las Vegas holding center and signed at the last possible hour to get this transaction closed.”
There are an amazing amount of tasks and red tape and challenges that REALTORS deal with every day. Joe and Connie have demonstrated how hard work and diligence can keep a transaction together. This is a huge benefit to the clients that they serve. Great job to a couple of very resourceful people.

Winners for “Going Above & Beyond for a Client”
Most Hair Raising Story
Not to provide further embarrassment to Marcia, I will omit the full text of this nomination. To summarize – there are some homes out there to be shown to potential buyers that need some TLC. Marcia was the consummate professional and held it together as creatures were crawling up her legs while she showed the flea infested property in this story.
Winner of “Most Hair Raising Story”
Marcia Branstetter of Silverton Realty
Community Service Excellence
“Dixon is a tireless volunteer for the Silverton community. His constant presence helps to make this community a better place to live. Dixon’s commitment to Silverton Area Community Aid (SACA) as the Executive Director is his most recent adventure. His work there is commendable and genuinely comes from the heart. He also recently designated an enormous amount of time to the Oliver production where proceeds go to charity.”

Write In – Mr. Dependable
Mike volunteers a great deal of his time and effort to make sure the Silverton Realtor Tour consistently remains a vibrant gathering of REALTORS. This is a weekly event that helps agents network their listings with each other. It is a very highly attended tour and is a great benefit to buyers and sellers, helping agents connect the dots.
His nomination, “Mike does an outstanding job of running the Silverton property tour for the brokers. He is very straight forward, allowing input and stays on task. He has been doing this for a number of years consistently. Call him Mr. Dependable.”
The North Willamette Association of REALTORS is a vibrant group of Silverton and Woodburn Real Estate Agents who all support each other and do an outstanding job honoring the ethical standards required to be an Oregon REALTOR®. Congratulations to the entire group. You’re all winners!
