Re-thinking Hawaii

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Locations LLC

A friend of mine came in from Las Vegas to visit Oahu.  This is his first time here on the island.  To my surprise he doesn't want anything to do with the downtown scene and only wants to sightsee our lush Hawaiian climate and spend the days either driving or at the beach.

Being a local boy born and raised here all my life, it really opened my eyes as to the things I take for granted.  This made me think about how I might be portraying Hawaii to my mainland clients.  I really think it's time for me to start getting enthusiastic again about what we have here and stop taking it for granted.

The following is just a few facts about Hawaii that may be interesting.

  • We not only have our own Hawaiian Language that only consist of 12 letters, but also have our own type of slang called Pigeon.  Sounds kind of like this.  Ho brah you gotta check out da kine house lydat.  It stay fo real kind killas ah brah.  Translated, you should check out the house it's really nice.
  • We are the only state that grows coffee.  Yummy coffee at that!  Kona Coffee anyone?
  • Hawaii has no Daylight Savings time and has it's own timezone.
  • Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959.
  • Our temperature here averages in the 70's at night to the upper 80's during the day pretty much all year long.

Thanks Kobe for opening my eyes!  From now on no more taking paradise for granted.

Wow...I've been writing a blog on sort of the same lines as your subject and could not finish it the other day so I put it on the side in word form.  I'm still not done but will be finishing it soon.  It's about a mainland client that always comes and I seem to experience something new everytime they come.  Come check it out in a couple of days.  Good post.

Mike, I tend to take our Island for granted as well.  It's such a beautiful place, hard to believe we actually do.

We love Hawaii as well!  And we love exploring the different areas away from downtown, and I love the downtown areas, too.  It's been a few years since we were last there, but our last trip was the best Hawaiian trip so far.  We took a short little mini-trip to Maui and loved exploring that island.

You do live in a beautiful place, Michael!

Thanks Ann!  Have you been to Kauai?  By far my favorite island!  Not to live cause it's too slow for me but I do think it's the most beautiful.  Hope you make it back out very soon!

Hey Mike, I'm on active rain now. Good post. Thanks for the reminder because we do take it for granted living here. I guess we need to be reminded sometime why we are so "lucky to live Hawaii".

Randy, haha I like that.  I'm pretty good about that even though I'm a local boy.

Hawaiian time is funny.  I hate that.  My other half is on Hawaiian time but I still love him.  : )

I've always wished my Hawaiian friends would want to spend more time at the beach or in the water when we are there, but I'm more than happy with the friendship and awesome food.

I love going to see them and am planning a trip soon to take my brokers test.  Anyone need a broker in Hawaii?

I also own a business paper in the land of Microsoft, Costco and other huge corporations.  I offer free advertising for Hawaii properties - as long as the listing agent agrees to pay me a referral fee.
