Silver City is located in southwestern New Mexico and is known for it's great climate, clean air and friendly people.  The nearby Gila National Forest and the Gila Cliff Dwellings attract campers, hikers, birders and tourists throughout the year. Silver City has an attractive downtown Historic District where art galleries and a variety of retail shops give residents and visitors another reason to enjoy all our town has to offer.

As of the 2000 Census there were 10,545 people, 4,227 households, and 2,730 families residing in Silver City and the population of Grant County was listed as 31,002 people. These numbers are rapidly changing as we have experienced a booming retiree/real estate market over the last several years. This can be contributed to nationwide coverage including being named as one of a Dozen Distinctive Destinations by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2002. Silver City was also named one of The 50 Healthiest Places To Live and Retire in the United States by Norman Ford, veteran health and retirement writer.  Most recently, Budget Travel Magazine has named Silver City, New Mexico one of America's 10 Coolest Small Towns, featured in its September 2007 issue "In New Mexico's southwest corner, Silver City isn't the kind of place people just stumble onto."

Silver City is located 40 minutes north of Interstate 10.  It is just 2 hours west of El Paso, Texas, 3 hours East of Tucson, Arizona and 4 hours south of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
