What if Nordstrom started selling real estate too?

What if Nordstrom started selling real estate too?

Everyone knows Nordstrom, and if not for anything else… the service. Whether you are buying or returning something, the level of service you receive is always first rate. Nordstrom might take a small one-time loss on a return, but at the same time they are building loyalty. That loyalty continues to drive repeat business day after day, month after month, and year after year.

So what would happen… if Nordstrom started selling real estate? I think a lot of agents would be at a loss, and to remain competitive they would have to raise the level of service they offer. Raising the level of service should include, and not be limited to, communicating regularly, developing a strategy to effectively market and sell the property, and be able to perform quickly on buying opportunities. Services like these establish trust, and build loyalty… all of which goes towards driving repeat business.

In the end… I’m not worried if Nordstrom started selling real estate – I’d fit right in!

The problem is most people already expect Nordstrom's services but have only Walmart budgets!

Aaron, good for you if you use their business model. I love the store personally & many agents would be SOL if it started happening.

Smiling, well-dressed Clerks.    Quality merchandise.    Beautiful, clean stores with live piano music.  Restaurant servers who call you "Sir" or "Ma'am", instead of, "How are you Guys today".  And first rate service when you need an exchange or return.

Thanks for the visual, Aaron.

Yes you would.....fit right in. I too visited Nordstroms one day and not only enjoyed watching the people who work there take pride in themselves, but they also attract a high quality consumer. Two entities meet up and much pleasure is exchanged. Oh, do carry that over into Real Estate.....Most excellent post my friend..thank you

On the other end of the spectrum, if AT&T starts selling real estated, everyone is safe.

In this business service is what matters. We can all sell the same homes as each other but its the service we provide that makes the difference.

I think we'd have a hard time competing with Nordstroms....a perfect black dress and a 2bd condo all in one trip? :)

Our broker has been comparing us to Nordstroms for years. It's his subtle way of subliminally having us do our best.

Not exactly on que~ BUT a friend of mine sold shoes for Nordstrom's 25 years ago and now lives in one of the most prestigious areas in South OC with an ocean view, a top Commercial Real Estate Broker in his office year after year and just opened his own 5 star hotel. I believe when we all put our customer service skills to work, anything is possible ;)

Don't forget they don't charge interest on the Nordstrom credit card, what an incentive.  I'm with Wallace, put me in the shoe department, near the grand piano player.

Funny, I was just talking about a lady that says she misses living close to Nordstroms.  I told her I liked their quality, and they were ahead of other dept. stores with their styles.  I would much rather be the Nordstroms than discount store.  Great analogy.
