15 Item Lanes

Are you obeying 15 item lanes at the local grocery stores? Do employees respect those rules?

I love it when I see when the customer is moved to the other register, because they miraculously could not see that sign. We see them above our heads in Trader Joe's, they are visible in Dominick's, Jewel-Osco, Whole Foods ... all of them have that Quick lane for people who made a quick stop.

Some people love to break that rule, some of us would not go to that lane with more items even if the lane was empty.

Not too long ago I was in Dominic's. Not my favorite store since they closed one in downtown Glenview. I really liked that store, I could walk to it. I could stop at the new one more times, but I choose not to. Back to the time that I stopped there. Probably it was 5 or 6pm and the store was packed. I had only a couple of items and I went to the quick lane. The lady in front of me had at least 40 items in the quick lane, and I was hoping for that moment, that the employee should say: "excuse me miss, this is a quick lane and is meant only for customers with 15 items or less." As you can imagine, this didn't happen. I didn't say a word to that customer. Maybe she is one of those special characters, famous, driving a Ferrari who knows .... I was not in a hurry ... I was in that lane for my convenience because the management made that lane for some reason.

When my turn came, I asked the employee. Isn't this a fast lane. Her answer: "she is a frequent customer" I didn't reply to her, but I thought to myself: "So what?"

And this is one of the reasons why I love the local Trader Joe's. I've seen them move people who can't see that lane at least twice a month.

There are many reasons why we love the local Trader Joe's. Employees do interact with the customers, they comment on their product, they are fun, hip and so on ....

Are you in a fast lane with more items? Think before you go to that lane. Everybody is watching you. We have time to count, we love to people watch. If we are not counting, we may be tweeting, or not.

Haris, I just thought it was an LA thing being entitled, nice to know there are other places with inconsiderate people, so we do not have a monopoly on them:))
