Am I the only one that is absolutely sick of seeing this picture and reading the accompanying article that is preaching nothing but doom and gloom about the Real Estate market.

                                                                                                     reading

I recently got a call from a customer who wanted to know if I had been advertising his home in the local newspaper. I told him that I had not and told him the reason for not advertising it. I asked him why I should spend good money advertising his home and others in the paper when they are preaching doom and gloom on the front page about the market. He agreed with me and then told me that all Real Estate agents should quit advertising in the paper as well.

ads  In the NAR 2006 Buyer and Seller Profile Report they state that 77% of buyers are starting their searches on the internet and that only 5% are using a newspaper. So! why do we use them?

I say we let the dogs have them. They'll get more use out of them than we will.

Richard - I stopped using newspaper ads about a year ago.  I was paying top dollar, racking up one heckuva ad bill and never getting a call on anything.  Not money well spent.

Now I use my time to network, publish monthly newsletters that I drop off at local restaurants and businesses and make impromptu visits to FSBOs that are out working in their yards.  I am getting a lot more mileage that way.

The only ad I'm even considering in print is one with just my website in it.  Nothing more.  Just to create a curiosity factor and drive traffic locally to my site.

And if the dogs don't want the newspapers....well...there's always that bird cage...

Richard- I haven't used newspaper since January this year and put my hard earned dollars into the internet. It is far more effective and less expensive than newspaper.

Richard,
It all depends on the market.  What works well in some markets may not work in other markets.  We actually still get calls from our newspaper advertising.
