A Little Breather in Mille Lacs

Real Estate Agent with Edina Realty

the good life

In a country where our schedules are overrun with errands, work, family activities and the "over" busy vacations are of utmost importance.

With the downshift in our overall economy many vacations and timeouts have taken a backseat... or become non-existant all together.

I had the privilege of visiting my parents overnight at Izaty's Resort on Lake Mille Lacs in Minnesota this week. We drove up on Thursday and spent 24 hours in peaceful bliss.

Just an hour away from our beloved Elk River it was the perfect overnight getaway and truly felt like a week's vacation! It is truly what the doctor ordered for a little de-stress time.

Admittedly, I felt a little bit guilty walking away from my phone, internet and major long to-do list overnight, but the perspective that I gained by walking away was impressive. It got me to thinking that everyone should have moments like that.

The self employed really don't ever have a moment off and I think that learning how to take the time to breathe is really paramount. It's not just a "nice" thing, but a necessity to stay sane in the craziness. If you haven't had a day off lately I highly recommend it.

Maybe you can't drive to Minnesota to look at the great views of Lake Mille Lacs, but surely you have a place within driving distance that you can explore and find some peace and rejuvenation.

Hi Lindsey,

Sounds like a nice time had by all. Isn't it odd that we usually feel guilty when we take a break and enjoy life?

Still geting beautiful  weather this time of year!  I am not good at getting away. I do a better job of shutting it down for family time but getting away I need to work on.

Bringing you home...

Carol - I'm working on the guilty bit!

Joni - I kind of went through a blogging funk. Seems that I've gotten back on track!

Michael - It is good to just get away sometimes. Sometimes 24 hours is all it takes.

Chuck - I have gotten great at shutting work down during family times. I realized that one just cannot work 24 hours a day. It may seem like the 'threat of losing a dollar' but my family and my sanity are much more important.

Linsey, Why feel guilty over a day trip. Here's how I see it. You are going to perform better and more efficiently for all your clients after a battery recharge; and so, this is system maintenance. Think of it as a 3,000 mile oil change, for your mind:)
