A Funny Thing Happened At My Microsoft Outlook Class
Since I cranked up my Atlanta home staging business in August of 2007, I have been using Windows Mail. For some reason it recently occurred to me that, in order to give a more professional appearance to my mail and take advantage of the calendar and incredible tools available in Microsoft Outlook, I needed to make the switch. So I signed up for a class which was taught at the Gainesville KW office last week and headed out. I had heard great things about the instructor, so I was looking forward to it.
The class began. Our instructor, Juanita McDowell with InMotion Real Estate Institute, was incredible! She was a great "step-by-step" teacher and was energetic, engaging, funny, and knew much more than we could all comprehend about the subject matter. I was impressed.
About ninety minutes into the session, when our brains were about to explode, we took a much needed break. I ventured over to Juanita to ask a question about switching from Windows Mail to Outlook. She looked at me and said, "You look familiar. Do I look familiar to you?" I said yes, but couldn't really place her. In the midst of trying to figure out whether or not we knew each other, I happened to mention I am a home stager. At that point, her mouth dropped open and her eyes became as big as saucers. She replie
d, "You are the one who wrote that post on ActiveRain about The Google Academy! (At this point, she beckoned to her In Motion administrator, Deborah Douglin.) "Deborah, come here! You are not going to believe this! This is Patsy Overton who wrote the post on ActiveRain about the Google Academy!!!" (Now I'm feeling like a total AR rock star.) She continued, "When I read your post, I signed up for one of their classes to check it out. As a result, I have developed my own class on the same subject and taught the first one last month. It was a sellout!" Okay, pick me up off the floor.
I cannot express how exciting it was to 1) meet someone "out there" who had read one of my AR posts; 2) actually inspire someone to develop a class as a result and 3) make a new face-to-face AR friend. I'm still laughing about the whole thing. It was quite eye-opening to me to realize that people not only read my posts, but also take action as a result of what I write! Shown here is a photo (taken with my iPhone, which is why it's fuzzy) of the two of us after class. AR friends forever!
And, back to Juanita, she is a FANTASTIC instructor!!! If you ever have the opportunity to attend one of her InMotionREI classes on Microsoft Outlook, Google World, Social Media, or a number of other subjects, do not miss it! As I was leaving class, I overheard a couple of Realtors talking in the parking lot. One said, "I've been to many RE courses over the years, but that one was the best!" Juanita is truly amazing.
Here's to making new AR friends and inspiring a few folks along the way.
