Where Were You on 9/11/2001?

WHERE WERE YOU?  Do you remember?

I can't believe we're coming up on the 6th Anniversary of this tragedy that struck our United States of America.  This is one of those times when you will FOREVER know where you were when the news came in about The World Trade Center.  I was at home cleaning my house.  I had called a few friends in-between playing with my 15 month old.  I had been living in my "brand new house" for all of 6 weeks.  My parents (who travel regularly) were in Canada as far as I knew and I had hoped they wouldn't have any trouble getting back to the United States.  My older son was in school and would be for several more hours.  President Bush was reading a book to kids in Sarasota, FL.  THE CALL CAME FROM a friend who's husband was in the military at the time.  I knew NOTHING as I had not turned on the tv, like normal.  My friend had called me back around 9:30 and told me to turn on the tv set that SOMEONE had just hit the World Trade Center with an airplane in New York.  DO WHAT?!?!?!  Soo...I turned on the television set, and the rest is history...   I sat through my hair appointment as the 2nd tower fell just crying uncontrollably wonder how this could be happening.  For days...I was GLUED TO CNN and MSNBC

Remember the outpour of support for our country? Remember all the flags flying as firefighters continued to search for more survivors in the rubble?  Remember when they found the United States Flag still flying off the roof of The Pentagon?  THAT was INCREDIBLE!!

Remember the "Stars in Hollywood" showing their support and donating some of their "hard earned money" to support families and victims of 9/11Remember all the songs that were written about and for 9/11?  (turn up the volume)

Remember how you felt that day?  How scared or terrified you felt?  How unsafe you realized our airports and securities were?  Remember how deathly afraid you were to fly or let someone you know and love fly anywhere?  Do you still "think about 9/11/2001 when you're headed for the airport knowing it could've been you on Flight 93 just headed somewhere else that time?

  • Fly your Flag
  • Wear Red, White and Blue
  • Say a prayer for those who died that day
  • Blog about it
  • Thank a Veteran
  • Remind your children why 9/11 is so important to the U.S.?
  • Watch all the documentaries "that night" in their honor?
  • Attend a vigil in your community?
  • Send a THANK YOU CARD to a SOLDIER fighting for your freedom in Iraq?

While you're revisiting September 11th, 2001, visit these posts recognizing our heroes past, present and future.  I know my heart was overwhelmed reading some of these posts today as I worked on this blog.

My Father is retired USAF so I grew up with plenty of friends and family living the military life.  This could've been my Father who was sent to War...but it wasn't.  However, I do have a niece and nephew over there who are very young, I also have some neighbors who have husbands there.  They all deserve to be thanked for putting their lives on the line day after day after day to PREVENT another 9/11/01.

Thank you for reading all the way to the end...

NOW...What will YOU do to honor September 11th this year? You still have 3 days left...

Susie, I was at my desk when a smart a$$ co-worker came in and told me what was going on.. Who knew the one time he was telling the truth.  I will never forget that feeling...I had just been in NY at the trade center a month before....

We were on home tour, and sawn the news on the sellers tv. We all thought at that time it was a small plane that the pilot lost control of or something happened to the pilot.  We did not find out until we got back to the office just how bad it was.

I was on my pc and it had hit moments before (it was 4am here) and I was on CNN news and watched the video. It really is like it was just a short time ago. When something that tragic strikes it lasts in our hearts and memories as strongly as if it were yesterday.

Funny what you remember...

I was fighting off sleep at Fripp Island Resort in the Rental office where I was currently working with no TV or Internet. I found out when someone came in and asked me what I thought about it and had no clue what was happening.

Stephanie,

I was at home folding clothes watching the tube when the news broke in about the first plane.  Called my husband at work and was talking to him when the 2nd plane hit.  That was a hard time for everyone in America.  Our lives were changed that day - I feel this is one of those defining days for our generation.  Our parents all remember JFK being shot and Nixon resigning.  Our generation will remember 9/11.

Sally - it really does seem like just yesterday...THANK GOODNESS it has been 6 years though!

Brandon - I bet that day got longer as you had nothing to offer you the latest updates!

Rita - You are correct!!  I think about it all the time...still!  Our young children will think about it too, my oldest son was only 6 and we had just moved him to a new school 6 weeks prior to this event.

My goodness...how many times I have relived this morning.  I was at the office and it go so happened that we always had a TV going with CNBC on...so as soon as the first plane hit, we were on it....we were watching as the second plane hit.  The rest is a bit of a blur...shock, panic, terror....thank goodness we have strong men and women defending our country against another terrorist attack!

Hi Susie:

Thanks for taking the time to do this.  Tomorrow should all be praying for the families of those lost.  Also, I hope there is the surge of patriotism  that was originally shown.

Susie,

Incredible how it seems like just yesterday, the video is tuff to watch. I remember watching on tv as it happened, I was working in an office and everyone just stopped and we were all glued to the tv for the rest of the day.

I was at work in France. Just before the first plane crash I felt sad and took my head in my hands, I think just a premonition. Then, going back home I turned on my car radio and heard the awful news. I couldnt really understand, the french guy was talking about a "small plane crash". When I arrived home, first I did was turning on the tv, I sat on my couch watching all the horror, I barely could breath and teardrops came out my eyes. I sat there the whole night. A few days later, I got terribly news about a friend working in one of Twin Towers.

I will always remember!

I was tying my boot laces just about to head out to work. The news was on and I didn't quite register what I was seeing on TV. When it hit me, I began to sob realizing how many lives were about to end. I went to work in a daze. As a construction manager on one of Intel's largest fab sites, we were all astounded as we watched and listened to what was happening on the opposite coast. Meetings were held and the decision made to shut down all construction operations as we were on a highly volatile site.

Before we left, thousands of us gathered in our huge lunch tent and sang the pledge of allegence. I've never seen so many grown men cry in my entire life.

I think there's a defining moment in history for every generation.  Those of us in our 20's and 30's, 9/11 is it.  It seemed so surreal, but hopefully all of the madness will stop and we can avenge those who perished by living peacefully amongst each other.

Susie, I was going to tell you about my day, but you've already read it and included it in your post, thank you so much. I've been reading the comments here with chills going down my spine and tears forming in my eyes, reliving other peoples memories. I can not watch the towers burn, or fall anymore, it hurts too much. I'd rather watch the memorials in the morning or be part of one as I was last Sunday here in FL.
Beautiful post with great comments. Good Job!

That was terribly moving Susie.  What a terrible day!  It's amazing to think of it being 6 years ago.  All the children without parents and parents without children...all because of what???
