Planning for work in spring already! We're having a beautiful Indian Summer here in Jefferson WI!

It is sunny and 65 degrees today!

We're having a beautiful Indian Summer here in Jefferson WI!

As a matter of fact, all throughout South Central WI!

The perfect day to set up some wonderful staging props for next spring!

I took a master gardeners class and passed several years ago and use it in many ways to enhance my staging.  This is one of the ways I do so.

In Springtime I love to use pots of color inside and out, so,.... if you want these;

Now is the right time to do this;

   Pick out your favorite bulbs and bulb combinations.  Plant in depths according to label directions.  Cover with dirt.  Store in garage, on a cool porch, or deck.  My favorite is to layer snow drops, crocus, daffodils and tulips all in one pot.  This creates a few months of flowers for you to use.

Those of you who live in small places.  Pack bulbs into a container, lined with paper towels and peat moss.  Put into the coldest part of your fridge at least six weeks prior to when you want them to bloom.  When your ready for them, plant them, water them and watch them pop up!

For a dramatic affect, how about these forced Amaryllis?

~ Remember ~

You only need about 6 - 8 weeks of cold for bulbs to "chill", then pot them and let them add a pop of color to your staged properties!  Follow directions on labels as to how early they can be set outside.  Snow drops and crocus can handle a lot of cold.  Many others cannot.

Laura,

Believe it or not I actually did a little gardening yesterday here in North Dakota. I pulled the last of the tomato plants and put away the wire cages that held them up. I'm hoping that this Indian Summer (are we supposed to say Native American Summer?) holds up a little longer so I can rototill before winter.

Hello Bob ~ I did just the same last week even though it was cold then.  Today,... BEAUTIFUL!  I'll keep my fingers crossed on the Native American week holding out long enough for you to get the tillin' done!  Okay, that just doesn't sound right ~ it has to stay "Indian Summer"!  :~)

On top of everything else you are a master gardner???  What else are you hiding from us?  Beautiful photos and great tips which, of course, will be lost on me.

Oh my Patsy ~ I can't disclose all my talents in one quick post!  I must be peeled layer by layer like the petals of a rose.  Okay, now it's getting deep around here!  Put your boots on girl!  Then out into the garden you go.  This even the blackest thumb can do!

Laura, what a refreshing break to today's wet first snowfall in NY. I love bulbs especially when they bloom. I was married in May and at the place where we had the reception the tulips were all in bloom. Beautiful!!!

Ellen ~that sounds absolutely beautiful!  Bulbs are so easy to use in decorating.  I am glad it added a little spring time color to your life today.  Too bad the first snow had to be that wet heavy stuff.  It's so pleasant to have the first one the soft and wispy kind.

I am so jealous of your warm weather...it's in the forties here and has been cloudy and rainy for the last week.  We finally decided to put the Harley away...sad day.  I love your post and have suggested and bookmarked it.  I have never been good with bulbs, never knew the procedure.  I'm hopeful this will help!

Hi Sharon ~ I'm sending it your way, just so you can do all those last minute "THINGS" that need to be done prior to the arrival of "bbbhhhhhrrrrrrrrhhhhhh"!  We have cold and rain/snow? mix Friday, Saturday & Sunday coming!  Put the Harley away?  Oh dear, that is a sad day! I feel your sorrow all the way over here. :(  I'm glad you liked the post.  Snow drops are the very first to pop up every year, followed by crocus, mini iris, iris, daffodils, tulip's then alum's.  There are others, but these are the most common.  There are even bulbs for fall.  There are so many ways to go about planting bulbs.  Pots work great if you like them contained.  I had one garden devoted to just bulbs at one time.  I just dumped a LOT of bulbs into a bucket, mixed them up well and tossed it over the garden.  Where ever they fell, I planted them.  It was a beautiful area all spring!

Laura - I'm bookmarking this!  We can all use a little "spring" in our day :)  These sound like awesome Christmas gifts like Tish mentioned too.

Thanks Tammy!  I am glad you like it.  They are so easy to give as gifts and for very "easy care" for decorating.  Enjoy!  By the way, I love your profile photo, so cute and sassy.  You look great in red!

That is fantastic Sharon!  It's only 40 with gusty winds here now.  We got the yard work done just in time!  Enjoy the sunshine.
