MY GUN, MY PONY, and..... me

The nation of which we are all so proud was built on this very title...this sentiment. It is a strong one. First off, during our formative years, a gun was mandatory for your survival both as protection and as a way to forage for food. Guns were part of the family and treated accordingly...

MY HORSE IS A GOOD LISTENER AND PULLS HIS WEIGHT and mine..

As far as horses go, there is nothing to compare with in regards to you and your horse traversing over hill and dale in every weather known. Both of you share hunger, cold, and pain as you go from point A to Point B. A bond is formed and both benefit from it deeply. One takes care of the other and together they do well

NOT FOR SISSIES...that came later

The wild westerner was a rugged life and not for the tenderfoot either. I watched an excellent PBS documentary on Wyatt Earp. It is the best and thorough one I have ever seen. I did a report on him in college a few years back, but this special is the mother of all subjects in regards to Earp offering insights on wild west life too .

GOT TO HAVE WOMEN......

Woman were tough as nails and came in all sizes, shapes and wants....Unfortunately, the trade that supplied pleasure to rich miners prospered very well. On the other hand, ranchers came out with their wives and or families and made a go from scratch. Woman were the glue that held it all together while the men were the sustenance

NO FAST FOOD OR MINI MARKETS

When you examine 100 to 150 years ago, you see not only how primitive we were, but how only the hard and the tough survived. It was later on that the sophisticated class of people came out to settle bringing with them all the modern conveniences. Of course, they became landowners along with the ranchers and thus ruled powerfully forming committees and then electing sheriffs, Marshall's and even Governors..

GO WEST.....ITS THE BEST

Fortunes were to be made and very little questions to be asked. Accountability, responsibility, justice, fairness, rules, regs and procedures followed so that those that had rights, could keep them. You see without a system in place, then we have survival of the fittest taking over. That had to stop...

SIGN HERE.......even if you cannot read English

The Indians got a raw deal. At first they ruled and as the White man encroached, they heard yarns and stories not like ever before. Of course without the proper representation, how were they to know what to ask for..? Keep in mind that Indians could not fathom the concept of owning a river, a mountain or a tree as there is no words or reason for it. They usually had two camps...One for the winter and one for the summer. That together with game and natural harvest met their needs...today, the casinos do all that....

Back then, if a man got the hankering to move on, to explore, to seek adventure and mystery all he had to do was get a gun, a good pony and .......the world was truly yours........if you can take it

I like any post that brings contrast to the things we take for granted everyday.  Power, fresh water by turning a handle, a car to drive around in, gas to put in the car, ect..  And truly, things are different now-a-days, but the ability to explore is still available, and begging for you to get on your horse and find some life.  One of the things I like to do in times of indecision,is think 50 years from now, and ask myself, how do I want to remember this moment.  If I look back on most of my life, I took the easy road, and created no real memory of things but, "shoulda" and "coulda" is not even worth regurgitating because I didn't!  I'm actually in Costa Rica right now, got flooded out of my house last Tuesday, moved to several different places to avoid being trapped for long periods because all the roads were getting washed out.  So those little things we take for granted each day, are luxuries, and yes you pay for them, but when they are not there, no amount of money can buy them.  To go one step further, if you have sight, you are the luckiest person in the world.  The only thing keeping any of us from what we want, is the story we tell our self about why it can't happen.  Richie, thanks for the post, it kinda resonated with me this morning now that I can sit in one place and think, but man we are so lucky to have what we have!

Scott...there is so much to learn and take in all around us with very little effort. I am enjoying those dynamics. History of any kind to me is fascinating as it tells you how something got here and why...Eventually, it sheds light on yourself because we are all playing a part in birthing this history whether personal or larger than life. thank you for visiting with me....

Hello William....you are on an adventure. We all are if you choose to believe it. It is full of meaning and messages and it has our full attention if you let it. This will only lead us to the realm of mysteries which is a very satisfying path to pursue and follow. There are more questions than there are answers and it is very satisfying to receive from time to time and answer or two or a hundred....It is wise to remind each other that this is a one way ticket.....but it is a first class one if you handle it right...Do great things and be limited by nothing........high regards to you William

I'd be pretty satisfied to be able to buy a gun, a pony and a nice, warm blanket and move on about now . . .

My gun, my pony and Tish...? Seriously, the concept is a good one. Tish, I was up in Oregon years ago and I saw something I will never forget. There were herds of dear running around all day long. Rabbits travels in pairs. Big fish (salmon ?) leaped out of the streams and rivers and you can pan for gold and make about a $100 a month. I saw people living out of their cars or old trailers out in the middle of no where bothering no one. I never forgot it. It just sort of reminded me on how you can live, eat, and work for free and do just fine.......Then, I rejoined the rat race and you know the rest......

Richie, this is a really interesting piece.  Thank you for stopping by one of my blogs so that I could find you in return.   I think the art of storytelling is one that not enough real estate agents use.  I love this one and will subscribe to I can read along and enjoy.

Hi Renee...that's the idea. Its a time out of a sorts to make you wonder and think how things came into being...people would pack dried beef, beans and salt and travel great distances adding to that as they went. There weren't any over weight people either. Its not for everyone, but if you settled down, you can make a nice go of it. I visited some Amish In North Carolina and they live pretty close to that ideal. No electricity, they work hard and they live well. Thanks for stopping by....

Hi Larry....thank you for stopping in as well. It is always my pleasure to meet and greet someone new. Please do take it in and enjoy. Kids today still think eggs and milk come from supermarkets.....LOL...well half of that is true anyway....the other half has to come from education, research, and storytelling......Be well Larry
