A couple of weeks ago, I stopped by the Madison County Humane Society in Richmond, Kentucky, to drop off some donation items from a client. While I was there, I said hello to the critters and got suckered in to playing with one of the residents. Axel, an orange tabby grabbed my attention by being the most vocal, so I let him out for some play time. This guy was SO friendly that I just had to give him a plug. He just wanted some lovin' and attention and stuck around a solid 15 minutes of serious brushing for . After he got his fill of love, he ventured out to explore the rest of the room and socialize with some of his neighbors. The Madison County Humane
Society is a great group of volunteers who run a no-kill, foster-based operation. Whenever possible, their animals live in foster homes, and many of them come to the group's facility on Saturdays for the regular adoption open-house. Drop by and visit these beautiful animals who need a home, or browse their profiles at www.humanesocietyall.com.
Shanna: It can be very easy to "fall for" one of those redheads you describe. Especially the vocal ones. My Mollie T Cat is very vocal... and at times... seems to be even more human than she normally does. I KNOW my calling her "human" would be an insult if she heard about it... so could we please just keep this between you, and me, and the 195,376 Active Rain members ?
Thanks... I knew you'd understand.
I just knew my Miss Mollie T would want to meet you... so here she is. Nice kitty, nice kitty. <smile>
Unfortunately I could not take him home since I already have one very jealous feline at home. I am one of those crazy cat people who would take them all home if I could, though! One of the things I forgot to mention in the post is that volunteers are welcome and encouraged to drop by even if just to give the animals some personal lovin' and attention, and a chance to get out of their kennels. Axel also has a twin brother at the shelter who needs a home as well.
@Karen: Miss Mollie T is a real beauty! Is she ready for a bath?
Shanna: Mollie T does not take baths. She takes showers. Lots of them. All by herself. She loves water, and loves to sit in one half of the kitchen sink, and put her entire head under the dripping faucet water... which I leave dripping... actually running very slowly... and put the spigot very close to the middle edge of the other bowl in the sink.
She will actually get drenched... and then lick the water off herself. It is one of the several very strange ways she gets a drink.
By the way... I see you are back at blogging after taking a few months off. I am glad to see that. Blogging on Active Rain... if you keep at it... can really help grow your business. Most folks see some results after about six months... when you start to get a "following."
I have written quite a few blog posts about her and the fun she has with water.
The nice thing about cats is that they pretty much take care of themselves and are more than ready to let you know when they need your attention.
Glad to see you help out with the animal shelter!

I have a Woodinville WA shelter which I routinely donate to on behalf of my clients. I have to go in with my eyes closed or I'll come home with a new beastie every time. I'd shake hands with you if we were close.
