Vacations and finding unusual places go hand in hand, at least for us!

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Respect Realty LLC 200311024

One thing I love about vacation is finding unusual places and towns. One of the ones we found accidently on our ventures Glenns Ferry in Idaho. This small little town is where the pioneers crossed the Snake River to get back on their path without taking the harder longer route through the mountains.

Glenns Ferry, Idaho

Three Island

Snake River, Three Mile Crossing

This town had so much history as clearly many once across eventually just settled there in the early 1900s. The historic opera house, the saloon that maybe newer, but the building certainly isn’t. Many people had things in their yard from the past and all the benches in the city were made out of old wagon wheels.

Local Pub

Old Opera House

Wagon Wheel Benches

This was a cool little town with lots of history and they clearly were proud of that history!

Three island crossing means crossing by using three islands.  My ancestors did that very thing there near what is now Glenn's ferry back then ...or now.

Todd - They go hand in hand with me too!  Also, finding the really great places to eat in a region!  I have a sister that has lived in Oregon, and now lives in Weiser, Idaho.  We made a trip to Baker Oregon, and I was fascinated with visiting an Oregon Trail interpretive center in the area.  Neat place!

I also meant to add, that I find that as sparse as infrastructure and buildings were a hundred years ago, they still managed to have an Opera House.  Here in California's Mother Lode, we had saloons which almost outnumbered the churches, but nearly every little gold rush town had an Opera House. . .Amazing!

Todd, I have a crazy brother who used to travel around the country as an itinerant sign painter.  He spent a lot of time in Idaho, and some of these look a little like his work.

I have to say almost stopped again at this town on the way back through just to see if we could find anything else that we missed the first time. Too bad it was getting dark and the picture opportunity would have been gone.
