What are you looking for In A Broker/Office

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX UNITED NVRD# S. 0045685

I am hoping to get some feedback from other agents about what they look for in an office/Broker and what elements are most important when choosing an office to associate with.  Please tell me your top reasons for getting involved with your current Company.

My reasons for associating with RE/MAX REALTY EXPERIENCE were

1.) Experienced Broker who is readily available.

2.) Great Office Location

3.) RE/MAX brand name and tools associated with RE/MAX International such as mainstreet, remax.com, leadstreet, corporate connections program, referral roster and many more.

I'm looking forward to your feedback.

I think you really need to think about what you need.  Everyone has different needs and goals. I'm a very independent minded agent, and I love the freedom I have at my current brokerage.  Also, I'm continually interested in the details and ethics of the business, and our borkerage is very intellectually engaged in discussing the ins and outs of the business.  Plus, I like have colleagues who work together in a friendly environment.

But, the short version is that I was related to one of the two broker/owners who started Lawton Associates, our boutique brokerage that specializes in the Rockridge section of Oakland and Berkeley.

The last 7 years I was a mortgage broker.  I decided to go to Countrywide because of the name.  When I walked into a Realtors office (cold call) It didn't seem to matter how good I was or my experience.  Some saw the quality of my work and now work with me, but most just humor you.  Now when I walk into an office agents, even managers listen.  Countrywide still has more programs and options still available, while everyone else (banks) have drastically slashed their guidelines.  Saw that coming so that is why I am with Countrywide now.  Plus I can lend in all 50 states.  It helps!

What I looked for before signing with my last broker was:

  • Experienced Broker, WILLING to help you grow as an agent and as a person.
  • Location and Office environment.
  • Professionalism.
  • Work Ethics.
  • Coaching

That's to name a few,  after working for big name companies, I realised what makes a good Realtor is the agent not the company, great post.

Ask your friends/family about reputation.  Throw out the names of 3-4 companies and ask what they think of each... kind of first reaction.  I found it VERY interesting.

As long as the broker is honest and willing to help, it is hard to go wrong with the balloon!
