Dave, I was encouraged by several people, telling me I would be good at it. My career in the music industry ended and I didn't know what else to do. So, #1 for sure. I'm so glad I dived in!

Well, I had always enjoyed walking thru model homes and doing the parade of homes.  As a mom of 4 kids, I knew my life would be hectic trying to be the best mom I could be.  I wanted a job that I could somewhat be my own boss and not have to work 8-5 and miss school events, games, etc.

I love being a realtor, and wouldn't change it for the world.

Dave---not sure I could choose just two---but it is certainly a combination of some of your choices as well as some not on your list.....I think brainstorming ideas is a great way to start the ideas flowing.  Thanks for sharing your list....

I did it cuz I wanted to win!  & nobody to tell me I couldn't!

Ever watch " the Pursuit of Happiness, before your day starts?  try it and find out how powerful you are after you watch it.  What an amazing story and what an inspiration for your day, week, world becomes!  When he gets the job at the end, I have seen it too many times and still get goosebumps and tears come out.  Thats what drives me to win!

Though #1 is the closest I can come up with, it was still a choice for me NOT TO BE in real estate...so if I say, I am in Real Estate by choice, that will be closest to the truth. To make money? Yes, of course - because unlike a job, there is no ceiling on your income!

My real estate career has two phases:

1 - I got my license while I was still employeed in a full time job. I got it because I wanted to invest in real estate and wanted to be able to find properties, visit them, and run comps without an agent.

2 - when I got displaced on my job I had three options - post to another position within my Company, find another job with another Company; or change careers... at that time I chose real estate because (1) I lost my job; and (2) I wanted to have more time with my family and kids.

I got into real estate because I got tired if working for the corporate world. I can be in control of my own destiny. My previous pofession as an architect has many transferrable skills when switching into real estate.

Like Anne, I spent way too many years in the corporate world working 60+ hours a week so others could profit. If I'm going to work that hard it will be for my business.
