Paying it Forward by Donating Blood

By
Industry Observer with Responsive Pest Control

Hi all: I was recently contacted by the Puget Sound Blood Center about donating blood. Now I have to admit this isn't my favorite thing to do. It honestly makes me a little squeamish!

But they needed my blood (O positive). At first I thought why as O positive blood is the most common blood out there. A friend of mine pointed out that may be exactly why they needed it.

So off I went ever mindful that up to 3 lives are saved by donating blood. Of course I'm aware that not everyone can donate blood. In fact, I was almost knocked out because I was in Europe when I was younger. Others can't give due to anemia, etc., etc. But if you can give, I encourage you to do so.

My next step when I'm ready to give again is to have the mobile van come to our company so we can have others donate as well. I remember having a discussion about giving with a somewhat skeptical listener last year. They said that a person gives to feel better about themselves. My thought was if that's even partially true, what's wrong with that?

So go out there and Pay it Forward. You will make someone's day. Have a wonderful day today!

We get the blood mobile 2 times a year and I do my best to hit up the church drive when it's on too!

Way to go Paul!  I used to give blood when I was  younger - but now I'm border-line anemic - low iron, don't weigh enough... seems like every time I get one thing solved they come up with another excuse - so here's keeping my fingers crossed they'll let me next time the van is in my area.

Paul, it is great that you give blood.  My wife gives regularly, but me I am a big baby when it even comes to just drawing a couple of test tubes for blood tests :)

George: Thank you. I too am a baby and constantly have to remind myself of the good it goes to! I'm a 2-3x/timer/year.

Amy: I hope you can too. It's a feel good thing!

Matthew: Good for you! You are a giver!

Although O positive is most common, only O blood types are universal donors which is why it is so important for O's to give.  All blood types can receive type O blood, and in an emergency where they don't have time to type cast they always give O blood.

Nice work giving!!!
