My Second Job-Southern California Living

By
Home Stager with AccentPositives Home Staging 658279

You all may know me as "that stager in corona", but did you know I had a second job?  Yes I have a second job that although stressful at times can be one of the most interesting and fun filled jobs a person could have.

City Taxi

Yes, not only do I own a Staging business, I also own a Taxi service.  That's right. My taxi stays pretty busy. I go on duty usually starting 3-4pm  Monday-Friday and 6 A.M. on Saturdays and Sundays.

With 4 kids all playing sports, school drop offs and kids' friend pick-ups and drop offs (that's free taxi service for other parents smart enough to get others to do it for them), I log a lot of miles.  Probably more in a week than my husband racks up commuting to work Monday through Friday.

Between my day job (the staging pays for the gas for the taxi) and the taxi business, I travel all over the roads and freeways of southern California.  In the course of my travels I meet many great people and see many interesting things, especially on the freeways.

Traffic

Here is but a sampling of the wonders of the road and what I have witnessed in passing cars or cars next to my taxi when nothing is moving (75% of the time) or when stopped at traffic lights.

Shaving (for some reason this really grossed out my 14 year old)

Monkey

Nose picking (my 14 year old thought this was funny...go figure)

Taking off clothes

Putting on clothes

Reading the paper

Reading a book

Watching TV

Driving without hands on the wheel

Texting

Applying make up

Eating fried chicken (...really?)

Drinking beer (...really?)

Singing loudly...with the window down (my personal favorite)

So...fellow travelers, what's the funniest or scariest thing you ever saw on the road?

How about 4 chihuahuas on her lap and a cell phone in her hands?  Another one I saw was coffee in one hand and cigarette in the other.

Cynthia, I surf around a lot for stuff that strikes me at the time, royalty free of course!

Sharon, that's one coordinated driver, you see those and they are the ones going 40 in the fast lane and hitting the brakes every other second.

Ana, first I don't know how parents do it...the taxi service that is....I'm afraid I don't have what it takes!

Well, on the road "texting" is probably the scariest thing I see, except for people trying to beat red lights.  Actually, a standing rule around here is to wait a few seconds after you get the green because as certain as there are nose pickers out on the road next to you...1, 2,  or three cars are going through a red light.  Another scary thing is a guy I know...he actually likes being in front of someone drinking coffee and then slams on the breaks to get them to spill it on themselves...can you say ass_ _ _ _!!!

Too funny, I run all over Houston, but's no kids on board.  I used to see my nieces and nephews doing silly stuff in the rear view mirror when they were young.

Thanks for a fun post...... I did alot of "cab-time" in my day.... we lived in a small mt. community, so our games took us all over the state of NV playing AA ball.....lots of fun and memories and life long friendships built around "kids sports"!

OMG Nick, that guy you know is an evil evil man LOL!  The texting things sends me over the edge...it is so common here.  When you are behind someone who is hitting their brakes every two seconds for no reason, 5 will get you 10 they are texting or yacking on the phone:)

Hi Cindy, my kids do stuff in the car they would not normally do like talk FIVE TIMES LOUDER THAN NORMAL:)

Hi Teri, you're welcome:) We also have made so many great friends through the softball experience, my son is just getting started and I know we will enjoy that too.....when we aren't behind the wheel!  BTW your website is amazing...no questions unanswered and beautiful pictures too.  Get bloggin girl!

thanks Ana....it was my first experience with working with the WWW (building my own site) and it taught me alot.  Now I really am focusing on how to use my camera for fantastic, spectacular staging photos!  And to learn to blog.....AR has been a great catalyst for everything I want to know more about...
