Preparing for Change in Saratoga County - Malta NY
Malta NY prepares for new business and growth.
Change is on its way, and the town of Malta wants to be ready. Residents of Malta went to the Community Center for a glimpse of what the future is holding for their downtown. As well as to put input into downtown.
The proposal for Malta was to divide Downtown into zones. The Zones will be the Town Center, the high-density focus of downtown, a pedestrian-friendly Four Corner Village, and two Gateways.
Paul Cummings, a planning consultant with the Chazen Companies reports, "Well, it has an enormous impact." "It is not just Global Foundries. I think it is going to be a lot of the spin off that you'll see as a result of that. A lot of support services, etcetera, are obviously a function of the growth pressure that not only the town of Malta is seeing, but the Capital Region and Saratoga County are seeing."
In terms of people moving into the area, developers are coming in and are loving the area. They have a plan and a place and provide guidelines to help direct that development, to make sure that it's appropriate for the town and really responds to what the town needs.
The plan is evolving more and more. After the presentation the crowd broke into groups. People got a closer look at the plans and voiced their concerns. Concerns include the historic district representation, traffic on Route 9, signage, architecture, and character of the community.
The Downtown Planning Team is planning on working on what they heard at the public workshop and will bring new recommendations to the town board in December or January.
