It was the end of World War I.  When "The Great War" officially ended with the Treaty of Versailles that was signed on June 28th, 1919.  However a cease fire was created seven months earlier when an armistice between the Allied Nations and Germany went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  THIS is the reason why Veterans Day always in on the 11th of November.

Veterans Day

It was President Wilson who then proclaimed November 11th as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.  "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations..."

Veterans Day

Thank you to my brother Tim who served in the Navy during the two Gulf Wars.  To my Father Bill who served in the Air Force in Korea.  To my Grandfather Liam who served the Army in WWII.  AND all of my friends on AR who have served, thank you!
