Go Past Coconut Road & Turn Right on Memory Lane

Estero FootballTonight I ran an errand with the Prada Purse (my dog that has cost as much as a Prada bag to keep alive).  We headed to Estero to check one of my listings in Colonial Oaks.  On the way back I cut down Williams Road and passed Estero High School.  **sigh**  Before I got to the train tracks I u-turned and headed back.

Beside the high shool is an area that is the back half of Estero Community Park.  It was put in a few years ago and is mostly the ball fields for Pop Warner sports.  The football players were out there in the rain, working it and doing their jobs!  (we have lightening sensors here, don't be too worried for them)  It struck me just then - that I never thought I'd be on this side of the field.  My kids grew up and I'm just some crazy old nag taking pictures of someone elses kids in the rain.

Everyone said I'd miss them when they were gone and it's true.  Heck, last week when I was looking for a photo of the team to post the Estero High Football Schedule I got all choked up.  I never missed a game but I complained everytime I sat there on metal bleechers in pouring rain with thunder and lightening.  Ok, maybe I had a right to complain about some of it.  I really didn't know how lucky I was to be there.

Tomorrow night I'll be at the game against North Fort Myers, just like old times.  I promised one of the coaches I'd take photos for her.  I took pictures all through the season last year.  I burned them to disc and gave them to the coach.  It had never occured to me it was a great gift.  The coaches are so busy with their teams they never have time to take photos, let alone have pictures of them interacting with their athletes.  (hint hint parents with student athletes)  It was the first photos Coach Belinda had been given of her girls in 11 years of coaching.  I promised her at least three games this year.  She'll get her three games and I'm going to be a big girl about it and not complain so much, too.  Hey, she might even get four ... and maybe even a basketball game, bonus.

LOL...I coached soccer a couple times with a camera in my hand.  I ve got a few years more of that.  My son doesn't play football anymore (maybe he'll go back someday).  But nothing beats a High School Football game and some cold Hot Chocolate.

Chris - when my kids were in school - we went to every football, volleyball, baseball, wrestling meet, track meet and so on.... football - well it is cold at night here in the fall.... and often snows.... I would trade you in a minute :) I too complained.... but would not trade those memories for millions of dollars - I need to catch some games this year....

I'm going tonight.  I'll wait until about 8:30 so the sun won't be scorching.
