US Home Values and Mortgage Market Rates - Interactive Charts

By
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed
Today I was snooping around our site trying to find something for an agent when I discovered the following US Home Values Index chart.  This is not what I was looking for, but after I found it, I was actually very impressed and got so excited, I forgot what I was originally looking for?  It was like going upstairs to your room and forgetting why it was you went up there?!?  lol~

So now that I found this and had the chance to study and "Inter-Act" with it, I thought it would be great to let you share this on your website or Blog too if you like.  Just copy and paste this code into your HTML tab here on AR or on your Website or Blog. The current stats may not be exactly what you're looking for, but having them available and knowing what they are might be useful in many areas of the market including yours.

US Zillow Home Value Index

There's a few ways you can share this with others including Facebook, Twitter and more. The links on the page where this graph is stored and updated allow you pretty much every option available to share, at least the ones that are most popular.  Who doesn't like stats and charts?

What's even funnier?  So I go back to the original email request to start my search and quest over again, and then I discover this.  The Mortgage Market Place and there's a mortgage market rate chart that is Inter-Active as well.  So before I got too far off track a second time, I went ahead and found what I was looking for to help out the agent, and now I'm back here to share this with you.

Here's a link for you to access the Interactive Graph for Mortgage Rates.  There's also Mortgage Calculators, and if you have no clue the difference between an ARM and a Reverse Mortgage, there's even a Help Center to get you up-to-speed with some mortgage basics. One of my favorite tools here is the "Rate Alert" which emails you when the rate in your area hits the desired amount. (I set my alert at 1%) haha~

US Home Values and Mortgage Market Rates, what could be more important than information like this, and you sharing it with your readers and clients in your specific hyper-local markets? I'd say today was a good day, a good find, and now a good deed done.  Hope you'll find these tools interesting, informative and useful.

Steve - I love it here at Zillow.  There's a ton of great people and support and each day I learn something new.  It just keeps getting better and better.  Plus I get to still be here on AR with all you folks, what more could I ask for?  :-)

My dear Missy, Yes, you can make one of these for your community as well, I just used the US Charts to reach a larger audience.  It seems to be working well based on my email in-box this weekend. lol~  CA did get hit significantly, but the RE market has traditionally been a roller coaster ride here anyway, I'm looking forward to the better half of the ride in the days ahead.  Kinda like the Simpson's roller coaster ride in Florida?  haha~

Hi Brad, I love this chart!Perhaps a silly question but I'll ask anyway..I notice when I clicked on the link on the bottom of the graph "US Home values and Interactive Chart" that you have in the post..it shows the cities that you have checked. If I use this link to make my own graph and change the cities..will it change the one in YOUR post? Do I need to go to Zillow and click interactive charts? Thanks!

Cindy - that's one of the really cool things, you can customize pretty much anything that comes from the Zillow site.

If you need some help, just let me know.  :-)

Hello Brad, once again thanks for the tips.  I can now embed a custom graph showing how my metro and other Pacific Northwest metro areas compare -- onto my blog and website.

I did fumble however, when trying to post my custom chart to my Facebook Business Page Wall.  The auto-post button provided goes to my personal wall AND it only posts the hard-coded cities as shown in your example, and not my customized view.  Thus, I created an AR blog post with my custom chart; and the auto feed to my Facebook Business page took care of the rest!  Thanks!  John

PS - I noticed that when comparing Seattle to Portland, the Seattle "Housing Bubble" looks much larger than the bubble for Portland -- that's one of the few times I'm OK with Seattle saynig they're bigger than those of us down here in the Pacific Northwest's Banana Belt!

Thanks Brad! I love stats too but have been preaching to my readers and clients about the fact that real estate is local so when they are in Los Angeles or NY, it doesn't help me too much. I am wondering though, since Zillow could be the people to develop this if there isn't a site already, if you have ever come across a place where I could plug in 2-3 difference zip codes for a comparison on them. For example, here where I live and work in El Dorado Hills-CA, we are on the border of El Dorado County. The next exit down the hill from us is Folsom which is in Sacramento County. I would love to be able to show the inventory, price per square foot of what's selling, etc.

DeeDee - The Home values chart area is the only comparison I see right now but I'm sure I can find more in fo on this later. I noticed that the El Dorado data isn't currently available here: http://www.zillow.com/local-info/CA-home-value/ but I'm sure there's a way to do this. Give me a jingle later and I'll help you get this info. Time to go home to wife and kids now... my kitchen's closed for the evening!  (big smile

Thanks Brad! I really appreciate you checking into it. I might have to manually make one, just finding the time to play with it is the hard part! Have a great evening. My kitchen doesn't close for a another hour or so!

Hi DeeDee,

Sara sent me a comparison chart from her area in Chicago, this is the closest thing we can find but it's not broken down by square foot or by some of the other criteria you may be needing.  I'm not sure if there's any site out there that does that so you might need to create an excel spreadsheet that will do a comparison for you.  I've worked in excel and created some pretty comprehensive tools before, but this one would take a little bit of work to put together. You'd need to create a database that could host and compare specific fields of data.

Let me know what you find out there.  Here's a link to Sara's comparison:

Brad, Thanks so much for checking on that for me. I was afraid there isn't anything out there right now. Sara's chart is exactly what I want. I saw where you can compare zip codes but doesn't apprear that it allows you to save mutliple zip codes and then compare those. I'll have to try and go the excel route for now. I'll give the project to my wizard son!!!! Have a great weekend! It is actively raining here in El Dorado Hills!!!!!!

Brad: Great post. Our tech savvy clients are using Zillow more and more, so I've been using it more and more too because it's vital that we, as their agents, are aware of what they are seeing and using. ~Rita

Rita - I totally agree, just yesterday I met with an agent in San Diego who asked me if I thought she should have the Zillow mobile app on her phone to which I advised "absolutely!" Why wouldn't you want to be familiar and use the exact same tools consumers and your potential clients are using?  This is so important since a large percentage of traffic on the weekends to Zillow is coming from our mobile applications.

It is vital that we are seeing what they are seeing and using.  :-)
