I was watching the news last night and saw a spot about a real estate scam. A lady claiming to be a property manager (she even rented a nice office suite to work out of) lured people in via newspaper adds advertising new homes for rent. The client would come to the office and the property mgr would show them pics of new homes, tell them to pick out a home to rent and go to the model homes to preview like properties. If the client liked what they saw she would collect their deposits, first months rent, give them a move-in date and keys. When the "renter" tried to put their key in the lock on move-in day...you guessed it, key doesn't work. Turns out the homes were real, just not the rental agreements. When the renter went back to the office it was empty. The home builders were upset and felt for the victims but couldn't do anything. Crazy huh?
