Tip #3

Ask the inspector if there are any signs of abandoned oil tanks.  Some homes, especially in rural areas have abandon oil tanks, that were once used to provide heat to homes.  When a home heating system is upgraded,  the existing tank may have been left rather than excavated and disposed of properly.

Rich, this is a very important question when it comes to rural property.  The cost to properly dispose of an abandoned oil tank, especially if it has leaked oil can be prohibitive.
