Gig Harbor Storm Aftermath November 15, 2010
Last night Gig Harbor braced for the first wind storm of the season. This area gets them from time to time this time of year. But last night and this morning was a little different. It started around 7:00pm last night. Our lights began to flicker and the tree's were whistling and swaying out of control. I started to hear little branches fall on the roof. I have a lot of very large tree's on my property.
This is what it typically looks like in the fall. It gets a little scary this time of year when you are dealing with wind and snow. Anyway, the wind finally blew so hard that the power went out for good at about 9:30pm. My husband and my daughter got our flashlights and started off to bed.
It kept howling and blowing until we finally fell asleep. I wake up at 3:00am to every light on in the house. I was happy the power was back on, but I had to get back to sleep for today. 5:30am rolls around and I get a phone call from my daughters school telling me that it was going to be 2 hours late due to the wind storm and power outages. There were a lot of people who were still without power. I didn't feel well at all. I think I have come down with the nasty cold everyone has had over the last few weeks. So I decided to go back to bed.
Then the doozy hit. It was around 7:40am or so and the bed was shaking. I jolted up and it was done. I thought that I was dreaming so I went back to sleep. At 8:00am my alarm goes off. I get out of bed and wake up my daughter, I come down stairs to do my normal morning Internet stuff. Sure enough, we had an earthquake this morning! I couldn't believe it. At the same time my daughter is yelling down the stairs at me " did you feel the earthquake?"
We had a doozy of a night and morning. We are all safe and sound. No major damage to report. But here are some picks of my yard. I may have to put on my scarf and head outside to do some clean up. :)
