Well, after staring at this slick little device for a while and after getting some nice friendly tips from other Rainmakers, I finally have this little guy up and running ...
I love technology and I thought I used to be ahead of the curve when I was working for a fledgling internet company in the fall of 1993 - trying to sell web sites. Most of my sales calls ended up with 'what the heck is a web site gonna do for me?' But today I feel way behind; there's so many new tech gadgets it's mind-boggling... So, I thought it might be fun to share my 'iPad Newbie' experience with others... (sorry tech guys, if I'm boring you)
Here's what I had to do:
To use with wifi or a mobile account, I had to go to my provider and install a SIM card. When I was there I purchased a package that allowed me 5gb per month for a flat fee. There's no contract, so I can change providers etc.
Back home, I set up an account for iTunes on another computer -make sure it's the latest iTunes
Plugged the iPad into that computer and voila it came to life.
Set up my user accounts for email, etc. - very simple and intuitive
WEB - wow, great speed using Safari and the images are crystal clear. I can log into my local real estate board's software (Matrix) and get new listings, etc. and the pictures are really far superior to those on my BB. So, I can see using this to show clients... and if you go to YouTube, you can use for videos...
EMAIL - works great and very fast. I set my emails up so they go to my BB and the iPad as well. I'm still working on customizing an email signature, etc. and I find that my BB is still my workhorse for email when I am on the road.
APPS - wow - there are thousands. The first ones I am looking at are free...one is the application for downloading books...iBook. If you like the library, I found I can access and place holds on books using the iPad...our library even has downloadable books for free...cool.
My favorite reason for using at this point: lying in bed reading the great material on Active Rain, showing clients photographs of listings, etc.
Future Thoughts - using my own videos for home tours, etc. marketing and branding.
Would love to hear from others who have found ways to improve their businesses.
Thanks!
ps - Don't give to your kids...you'll never get it back. ;)
