Bonita, The Hidden Gem of South Bay San Diego
One of the oldest communities in the east part of south bay San Diego, Bonita is considered a Hidden Gem by many. Bonita, Spanish for pretty, describes the five-mile location along the Sweetwater River between the Sweetwater Reservoir and the 805 freeway. Bonita has established neighborhoods, most with larger lots than newer developments and it is conveniently located roughly 20 minutes from Downtown San Diego, Coronado, San Diego Airport, Various beaches and bays. Due to the rolling hills, many homes have ocean views. Although few people keep them much of the homes here are zoned for horses as well. Much has changed over the years as cities have grown around the area of Bonita. However, Bonita's small town heritage still lingers with the annual Bonita fest, chili cook off and weekly farmers market.
