Mr. Lender please don't ask me to send you a referal, you never send me any

So when was the last time a lender sent you a referral?  My answer would be never.

I received an email from a lender which read:

If you have never sent me a loan you are missing a chance to work with the best staff in the busienss.  TRY US.

So I decided I would respond and ask him to send me business.  He responded and said what area of town did I specialize in.  I responded and said what difference does that make I can sell real estate anywhere.  He responded and said he would only make referals to someone who specialized in an area (yes right).  So I said if if fine for you to do loans in any area; however I could not sell in all areas.  Followed by please remove me from your email distribution list.

Interesting, so what I hear you saying is that the criteria involved for you to refer a client to a lender is not so much in the competence and quality of the lender but more in the lenders ability to provide you with additional business.

Steve,

Thanks for your comments.  What you are hearing is sarcasm.  I would no more try to represent a client buy or sale in an area that I know nothing about.  I know what a client/agent relationship is all about.  It is one built on trust.  I have duties I owe my clients.

I just do not like to get email from lenders asking for my business, when I have NEVER asked a lender to provide me with a buyer or seller.

I am not sure about loan officers in your state; however I know in Texas there is no client/agent relationship between a lender and a buyer.

It's almost a one-way street, isn't it? I feel that way. The only one lender that sent me business is now getting all my business. He constantly thinks about people to send (like his own family).

I think it's just the nature of our business. Most people get house-fever, then figure a way to buy it!

Loreena,

Thanks for your comments.

I found the best lender when I moved here three years ago.  His name is Craig Jarrell, he never begged for me to give him a chance.  He knows the lending business and how to take care of my buyers.

I don't send a client to a lender with the expectiation of them sending me clients.  I just want my current buyer taken care of.

Couldn't agree more Richard.  I do receive referrals from one particular Loan Officer on a fairly regular basis.   And, I in-turn, send Buyers his way.  He knows the quality of service I provide my clients and I appreciate his track record as a true loan professional.
