Selling your Home for the Holidays?
It's a widely held belief amongst Sellers and Agents that the Holiday time is not the best time to sell a home. The extra demands of this time of year can make people distracted. Some Seller's who have had their homes on the market for a few months and find it is not sold as Holiday time is approaching may consider taking it off for a few months. It is more of a consideration in parts of the country where weather is a factor, and the selling season is, well, more Seasonal. Rain and snow can be quite a deterrent to going to viewing homes.
In California, where I work, it is less of a factor. But, because of conventional wisdom people still hesitate to try and sell their home at this time. It can become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
. Some Reasons Seller's Sell and Buyers Buy around the Holidays
•· A Seller may find that because of life's circumstances, they are going ahead with the sale of their home. Buyers that are looking at this time and thinking about making offers are typically serious and focused despite holiday festivities.
•· Case in point: One of my Clients found the house they wanted and purchased it a month ago and are now preparing to sell their first home up this week, end of November.
•· One gentleman wanted to buy a home for his wife as a Christmas present. He did. All cash.
•· I happened to be in my office on New Year's Day when a couple walked in and wanted to see a home they saw on our marquee. I showed it, they bought it that same day- again with cash!!
•· Last but not least; I can remember where we made an offer and got it accepted a day before Christmas. The client was just here from Vietnam and wanted to buy before their big New Years' celebration.
•· San Francisco Bay Area has high diversity of religion and lifestyles. As this trend becomes more common in other parts of the country we could see more home sales around the Holidays.
I believe that the general festiveness of the year can help sell a home. Decorations, if not overdone, can make a home feel "dressed" up and cozy.
Nothing like a roaring fire for atmosphere. Just think what you can do with some blinking lights outside your door that say "buy this house!" Now wouldn't that be something! Okay, that's going too far. See Realtor magazine for tips on how to make the most of your décor and not overdo it. Link below
