There are so many people who either get free turkeys as a shopping reward at their supermarket and there are companies, like where my husband works that provides each employee with a frozen turkey for Thanksgiving. You'd be surprised or maybe not, by how many people do not either eat turkey or have never cooked a turkey. Honestly, up until last Thanksgiving, I had never cooked a turkey! This year I will not be cooking the turkey, I will be paying it forward.
So if you are one of those people who received a free turkey or even if you bought one and have no intention of cooking it for Thanksgiving, on Saturday, November 20, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Essex County, New Jersey is offering 9 different Essex County locations where you can donate a frozen turkey or a non-perishable food item or even make a monetary donation.
Volunteers will accepting your frozen turkey donation in Essex County at the following locations:
• First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, 326 Bloomfield Ave., Caldwell
• West Caldwell Presbyterian Church, 31 Fairfield Ave., West Caldwell
• First Congregational Church of Montclair, 40 S. Fullerton Ave., Montclair
• Glen Ridge Railroad Station, Ridgewood Avenue and Darwin Place, Glen Ridge

The frozen turkeys, along with non-perishable items will help The Community FoodBank of New Jersey to provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and other holiday meals to those in need, and to be there for those in need even AFTER the holidays have ended. Monetary donations will be used by the FoodBank to purchase turkeys at wholesale prices and assist in providing food and groceries throughout the winter months when unfortunately, the number of families needing help greatly increases.
This year I am paying it forward and donating the free turkey my husband gets at his job to the Community FoodBank of New Jersey at the Caldwell turkey drop-off on Saturday. Hope to see you there!
As always, Essex County, New Jersey at its BEST!!!
