This statement is bound to get me some serious hate mail, but I will brave on....
I want to talk today a bit about collapsed media channels. There are some that seem really obvious such as newspapers. There are other media channels that have taken a serious hit lately such as direct mail.I would also like to add to that list.....
Email - I usually read one or two emails and then throw the next 50 away. Because we are so bombarded with email I hardly ever take this media channel seriously. I feel that it has run its cycle and many top professionals I have talked to feel the same way. It is abused to the point where nobody really takes it too seriously anymore. I am glad I did not buy into the whole INfusion software craze.....
FAX - Unless your prospects are expecting to hear from you directly this is basically another collapsed news channel. Its been a tool for media spam. Worse, most states will actually fine you for sending a FAX.. unless you have permission. This really is not a victimless crime. You are tying up someones FAX machine and also wasting their toner. There is no faster way to annoy the secretary of your prospect.... use cautiously.
MAGAZINES - This is really getting to be a problem lately. Hour Detroit recently published an issue of the top doctors in Metro Detroit, DBusiness also published a similar issue of the top lawyers, (they are run by the same company). The top complaint here is that there is no voting process. You simply buy ad space when a rep calls your office. There is zero journalism here when you involved in a "paper payola".
This is meaningless...... Unless you strive to rise above this sort of visual media psycho babble.... You need to create your own special type of media that will get noticed and read by real prospects.....
One great way to get attention and rise above the clutter is to create relevant websites

Here is something I did for the - Sales Copy market in NYC......
This is a good example of how to stand out among the crowd......
What has worked best for me was to not get lost in the traditional over clogged media streams.
