Jay Leno to Pres. Bush - Thanks for 8 Years of Material

By
Real Estate Agent with Retired

Former President George W. Bush was on the Leno program last night and one of the comments Leno made to President Bush was "Thanks for 8 years of material." It was actually said with respect and Bush responsded with appropriate humor.

This was a very good interview with the usual personality type of questions that Leno asks of guests. The former presidents responses were quicky, witty and often self deprecating bringing a lot of laughs. Leno did ask a few "tough questions" about Katrina, why bin Laden is still not captured, what did he regret, etc. Bush answered these questions candidly.

One thing very obvious and very heartwarming was the respect shown the ex-president not only by Leno but by the audience as well. They cheered and applauded his comments. And, when Bush was introduced and entered the stage area they stood and applauded in respect. When Bush gave his response to why he does not comment on Obama there was another loud round of applause.

One thing that is obvious from this and other interviews is that Bush is certainly content and even happy to be out of the limelight, or the crosshairs, making few public appearances other than to greet returning troops or, after the Ft Hood shooting to visit the survivors, but always low key with little fanfare.

I have seen several of the interviews, including Matt Lauer's, Bill O'Reilly's and parts of others and this one was certainly the most enjoyable and respectful. Hope you got to see it. Maybe it will be available on youtube or the NBC website.

Former President George W. Bush is a class act and people are finally figuring that out - and the liberals are going nuts!

Mike...did not see the full interview, but was able to catch some clips from it.  I always enjoyed and respected  President Bush's ability to laugh at himself, when necessary & to handle interviews with aplomb, grace & the ability to 'not answer' the intrusive question when necessary.
Have his book & it is a keeper.  To some who continually 'blame' him or poke fun--I ask--"with what is happening to our country Do you miss him, yet. "

I watched it.  W is going out as a class act.  He didn't whine about the missing Ws from the White House keybords when he got there, and the Os didn't fall off of them before he left.

And did you notice that he did it all without a net teleprompter?

Bill - not sure why you went there, this was about Leno & Bush and a decent interview

Rob - missed that part

Melissa - hope you get to see it

William - it might be on the tonight show web site

Nick - thanks for the feature, he definitely does have class

Barb & Sal - looking forward to reading the book

Lane - although he didn't mention it in this interview, I like and agree to his concept that the office of the presidency itself if much bigger and more important than the person that is the president.

Saunders - Didn't see it but every interview I've seen with him has been good.  While I never voted for him, I always liked the guy and had a degree of respect for the man and of course, the Office.  And he has a great sense of humor!

While I didn't agree with everything he did while president I did vote for him twice because he was the best candidate running when it came down to it. He is quite happy to let history judge what he did and how he did it and history will judge him a lot better than those that villified him think.

Sardi - just saw the show opening today where Leno & Bush get patted down because of the extra security. He is a guy I would like to sit and have a beer with, but would stick to iced tea since he stopped drinking

Walter - and he is candid, he stated that he would be dead by the time all the evaluations are made.

Obama is the Columbian or Harvard candidate, I have seen nothing suggesting he ever attended Kenyon College.

Mike - I haven't seen the interview but I'm sure he couldn't wait to get out of the limelight/heat.  The scrutiny at the top particularly with our incessant need for information (hence 24-hour news networks) means that the spotlight is even more intense.  Notice that Clinton and Dubya grayed before long?  Obama's doing the same.
