Make New Memories This Holiday Season at the 47th Annual Hartford Festival of Light!

Since 1963, families and friends have treasured the magic that comes with the spirit of the holiday season at the Hartford Festival of Light. Surrounded by fellow holiday well-wishers, the invigorating chill in the air, and of course, the warm glow of the holiday lighting, this long-time tradition, originally held at Constitution Plaza,  will be relocating and receiving some enlivening updates this year.

From Friday November 26th until January 6th, this year’s Hartford Festival of Light event will be held at Bushnell Park. This change may be a surprise to many, but the new location gives the Hartford community access to the nearby theatres, restaurants, as well as an outdoor skating rink. Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra noted that skating in the park would make the event even more memorable for Hartford home owners and visitors alike. The event’s opening ceremony on Friday November 26th will feature live entertainment and a very special appearance by the Big Man in the Red Suit – Santa. Santa will be riding his ice sleigh in a procession down Trumbull Street to Bushnell Park, where he will turn on the lights for the celebration. Also, for the first time ever, the even will hold a toy drive for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys for Tots program, so festival attendees are encouraged to bring their donations. This year the Hartford Festival of Light will be creating a bright winter wonderland with thousands of sparkling lights that feature environmentally friendly energy-efficient bulbs.

The festival’s opening ceremonies will take place at Bushnell Park on Friday November 26th at 5:30p.m. From November 27th – January 6th, the Hartford Festival of Light will begin at 4p.m. and end at midnight, and all lighting will be illuminated at dusk. Be sure to visit Greater Hartford Arts Council’s website for more details.

So after you’ve had your fill of delicious Thanksgiving leftovers, come over to Bushnell Park on Friday evening to celebrate a tradition and make new memories this holiday season.

Sounds like a fun time, first I'll visit the lights, then a little ice skating to work up the appetite and afterward a yummy meal. Perfect, great hyper local post.
