This could be the best Thanksgiving in Crested Butte in years. As luck would have it we have a massive storm coming in that could drop as much as 48 inches. If you have never come here for Thanksgiving it truly is one of the best times to comes. Come eat some turkey in the mountains!

DENVER -- Skiers rejoice! A major winter-type storm is headed for the Colorado mountains this weekend. Meanwhile, Denver will stay dry but cool through Monday.A Winter Storm Warning goes into effect Saturday evening for most of Colorado mountains including Vail, Aspen and Telluride. Most locations will see 12 to 24 inches of snow by Tuesday morning, but south facing slopes could receive 36 to 48 inches.Travel will be hazardous across mountain passes as strong winds cause blowing and drifting snow and poor visibility.

The cause of the snowy weather is a strong jet stream flow from the southwest, drawing moisture off the Pacific Ocean. The heaviest snow is forecast in the areas over 9,500 feet with winds up to 50 mph.For the Denver area, expect some clouds and cooler temperatures this weekend, but no snow. Downslope winds will keep us dry here on the Front Range through at least Tuesday when another front will drop through and bring us a chance of snow. This weekend, look for some chilly temperatures on the eastern plains. A cool, northeasterly flow of air at the surface will keep things on the cloudy side with some patchy fog early Saturday. A few snow showers are possible on the far eastern plains Saturday afternoon, however Denver will remain dry.Tuesday afternoon, another cold front will slide through northeast Colorado, dropping our temperatures and bringing a chance of light snow Tuesday night and Wednesday. We are not expecting major accumulations with this system, but the thermometer won't be rising much above 30 on Wednesday, with overnight lows in the teens. Our long-range forecast for Thanksgiving day looks fair, but cool for the Denver area with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 30s.If you are traveling into the mountains any time between Saturday evening and Monday morning, be prepared for winter driving conditions and low visibility due to blowing snow.
