It Is A Short Drive From Your Pell City Home To Noccalula Falls, Campground And Wedding Chapel

In about an hour you can drive from your Pell City home in St Clair County to Noccalula Falls, Campground and Wedding Chapel.  Pack a lunch, load up the car, and make the short drive to spend a nice day outside with your family or friends. Riding the train inside the park is included in the parks small admission fee.  You will feel like you stepped back in time with  the hand hewed log buildings  in the park that represents the hard life that the pioneers had living in the Appalachian foothills.

Noccalula Falls were originally known as Black Creek Falls. Living near the Black Creek Falls was Noccalula, the daughter of the area Indian Chief. Her father promised her hand to the rich Chief of the neighboring tribe in trade for multiple items. She pleaded with her father not to promise her to the chief because her heart belonged to a young warrior in her own tribe. Her father would not listen, and Noccalula's young lover was driven away from the tribe.

Noccalula Falls, Logan Martin Lake Sales

Everyone was enjoying the festivities on Noccalula's wedding day when she slipped away and went to the waterfall and jumped. The Indian Chief was so heartbroken from the death of his daughter he named the falls after her.

That my friend is the legend of Noccalula Falls.

Noccalula Wedding Chapel

Next to the waterfall  sits the beautiful Noccalula Wedding Chapel. With romance already in the air, this is an exceptional place to get married.

It will only take about 55 minutes to drive  from for your Pell City home in St Clair County to enjoy the beautiful Noccalula Falls and park.  Who knows, someday you might would like to get married in the Noccalula Wedding Chapel!

Diane - That's quite the legend.  It makes you wonder if any or all of it is true!  Certainly the pieces of the landscape lend themselves to the story!

Myrl- What makes me think some of it might be true is original name of the waterfall was Black Creek Falls.

Rebecca.  I enjoy history and thought this was quite a interesting legend from yesteryear.

It is a great place to spend the day if you are ever in the area..

Diane, I love to hear stories like that! These photos are really, really nice! It looks like a great place for a wedding and a honeymoon! Whether the stories are true or not, they need to keep getting passed down through the ages! Thanks for teaching me something new!

Diane, What a sad love story.  It sounds similar to Romeo and Juliet but I guess in this story we don't know what happened to Romeo.

Hello John, Thanks for stopping by and commenting.  You do have a point, but does Bigfoot have a waterfall named after him?   ; - )
