Civil War Re-enactment at Liendo Plantation -- November 20 - 21, 2010.
This reenactment is put on during the weekend before Thanksgiving every year, rain or shine. This year was beautiful and sunny and in the 70 - 80 degree range. We could even see the battle from the freeway before we got to the plantation.l
They shuttled spectators to the battle field by hayride. These were some of the tents along the way.
The battle was in full swing when we got there. We were on the side closest to the freeway. The troups were good about firing in unison. It made a large bang and lots of smoke.
There were lots of people there. Most of them bring their own chairs to sit in and watch the hour long battle.
Here are some of the southern troups after the battle.
After the battle was over they allowed the public to walk on the field. This is the hill that the southerners fought behind, until they were over run.
Here is what a typical campsite looked like.
I had to take a picture of this cannon. It reminds me of the little cannon I bought at the Vicksburg battlefield.
Look at all the smoke the cannons make. The whole battle was awesome. Thanks to all the people who re-enacted it.
The address so you can go next year is 38653 Wyatt Chapel Road, Hempstead, TX - (979) 826-3126
