My mother lives in High Point, NC. I live in Pinehurst, NC…..about a 1½ hour drive. The normal route is to go up and down on Hwy 220 (I-73 & I-74). But several times a year I take an alternate route because of the time of the year….Spring and Autumn! This week as I was headed home from High Point I took that alternate route….down through Archdale, Flint Hill, through Caraway Mountain on into Asheboro.
The drive was absolutely gorgeous…only lasts about 20 minutes then back to reality. The drive up Old Lexington Road into Asheboro is such a treat with the old, stately homes and the many hardwood trees that were brilliant in colors of gold and red.
Living in the Sandhills of North Carolina with pine trees and green grass pretty much 12 months of the year really makes me appreciate the four seasons. In the Fall in Pinehurst the trees of red and gold are silhouetted by the huge green pine trees so they really stand out more, but there just aren’t enough of them….but then again, we don’t have to rake the leaves as much once they fall!
