This is an article I read to help explain the idea of the petition:
For those who don't know-If a loved one goes missing and is AUTISTIC, an ALZHEIMERS PATIENT or is mentally impaired in any way that would leave them with no way to ask for help-Did you know they do NOT qualify for an AMBER ALERT.
On Friday, August 17th,2007 a NON VERBAL 12 yr old boy (Justin Menezes) strayed away from a camp for autistic children. LUCKLY he was found ALIVE-but it took OVER 13 HOURS to find him-This included a search of the river, and calling off the search due to a storm. But hours were lost and manpower that would have volunteered was lost-because "they just didn't know"
In the meantime -NO amber Alert was issued BECAUSE Justin "DID NOT MEET CRITERIA" (meaning there was no proof he was abducted)-Well...There was NO PROOF HE WAS NOT....
So now a petition to create an INCLUSIVE ALERT called The WANDERING PERSON's alert.
If you are a parent of an autistic child (as I myself am),a caregiver to those with Alzheimer's or just a concerned citizen,-PLEASE(!!!) take a minute and go to the address below and add your e-signature
