Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Capital Properties DC AB15253

McLean is an exquisite town along the Virginia side of the Potomac River, located between the George Washington
Parkway and the town of Vienna.  McLean is known for its many luxury homes, as well as its shopping and upscale malls, including the nearby Tysons Corner Center and Tysons Galleria.

McLean is home to many diplomats, members of Congress and high-ranking federal government officials, entrepreneurs and service businesses partially attributable to its proximity to Washington, D.C. and the Central Intelligence Agency. It is also the location of Hickory Hill, the home of Ethel Kennedy, the widow of Robert F. Kennedy.

Several major companies are or have been headquartered in Mc Lean including Booz Allen HamiltonCapital OneCardinal BankFreddie MacGannettHilton Hotels CorporationMarsMicroStrategyScience Applications International Corporation (SAIC); Sunrise Senior Living, and USA Today.

The town received its name from John Roll McLean, the former publisher and owner of TheWashington Post, who, with Stephen Benton Elkins, built in 1906 the electrified Great Falls and Old Dominion Railroad Great Falls and Old Dominion Railway (later the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Washington and Old Dominion Railway), which connected the area with Washington, D.C.  McLean named a station after himself where the rail line (travelling on the present route of Old Dominion Drive) crossed the old Chain Bridge Road. The community itself was founded in 1910, when the communities of Lewinsville and Langley merged.

FEATURED RESTAURANT - THE PALM

Are you a New York Transplant looking for a new home and a little nervous about life in DC? No need to skip your
Monday Night Salad with its combination of romaine and iceberg, the roasted peppers, radishes and anchovies or that jumbo broiled Nova Scotia lobster.  Not only is there a Palm restaurant in DC, but there is a great Palm restaurant in Tyson's Corner too!

Did you know that the Palm dates to 1926, when Pio Bozzi and John Ganzi opened the first Palm in New York City. As the website says - From day one, Pio and John shared their commitment to quality and generosity of spirit with every guest who walked through their doors. What began as a restaurant became a legend – a place to not only enjoy an excellent meal but also catch up with old friends, meet new ones, close business deals, and celebrate family milestones.

FEATURED SERVICE - GEORGE SAGATOV

Sometimes the luxury home you dream of is just that - a glorious dream that no one has ever seen.  What you have to
do then is call George Sagatov to build that dream home on a lot of your choice.  George Sagatov is a designer and builder responsible for more than 80 homes in Northern Virginia over the last 18 years.  His homes have ranged from genuine mansions of 25,000 square feet to 4,500 square foot authentic estates.   He endeavors to create an intrinsic value; an “estate quality” in all his work.

His designs envision the maximum potential in each property. Landscaping is not an afterthought. Instead, he utilizes specimen plants from his own nursery - a a collection of established landscape reclaimed  from demolition sites. This treatment instantly gives his projects maturity; an aged patina. The garden designs strategically paint the picture seen from the indoors.

When you wander through his floor plans, everything flows and makes sense. You are stimulated by the sight lines and the movement of natural light. The scale and proportion of the architectural detailing makes rooms interesting; the spaces make you want to be there.

With beautiful wood paneling in the libraries, imposing stone fireplaces, deep moldings along the ceilings, and unique touches like catering kitchens or winches to lower the two story tall chandelier so that you can change the light bulbs easily, George Sagatov puts a great deal of thought into each home he builds.  Let the Lise Howe Team introduce you to a master builder and designer, who creates homes that you will cherish!

FUN FACTS - ABOUT THE PALM

  • As natives of Parma, Italy, John Ganzi and Pio Bozzi, the Palm founders, wanted to name their restaurant after their hometown. When they went to register their business, however, a New York City clerk misunderstood their Italian accents and issued a license for “The Palm.”
  • The caricature tradition began when, instead of singing for their supper, artists paid their tab by painting an original portrait on the wall. The proximity of New York’s cartoon syndicate offices led to the proliferation of colorful caricatures found at every Palm location.
  • Steaks weren’t a part of the original Palm menu. Whenever a customer would ask for steak during The Palm’s early years, John Ganzi would run to a nearby butcher shop on Second Avenue, buy a steak, and then cook it to order. Steaks eventually became a regular menu item to accommodate guests’ frequent requests.
