Jay's Tuesday Free Enterprise Quote

"Capitalism is based on self interest and self esteem, it holds integrity and trustworthiness as cardinal virtues, not vices.  It is this superlative moral system that the welfare statists propose to improve upon by means of preventative law, snooping bureaucrats and the chronic goad of fear."

                                                      Alan Greenspan

And "statists" are everywhere in our current gubment today!  They who propose their soft tyranny in the form of crushing bureaucracy, regulation, licensure, control and power over the individual are everywhere in our current gubment, from the top down.

Capitalism, better said, free-market economics, cannot thrive in such an environment.  Innovation is stultified, risk is not taken, business growth cannot happen, confidence is shattered and everything slows down.  And THAT is the environment we find ourselves in now.

Integrity and trustworthiness CANNOT thrive in any arena other than capitalism!  Is that found anywhere in the world, or throughout world history, in any other economic structure?  Is a burgeoning, growing, contributing economy found anywhere that is not based on the voluntary and free exchange found in a capitalist system?  It is not!  Why not?  For without those things people will not return for your good or service.  Your business will not thrive, you will not profit, you will not invent, you will not grow, and you will not stay in business if you try to employ any form of soft tyranny in your market.  In a free-market economy, there is always someone else consumers can turn to instead.

When goods and services are forced upon a populace by its government, and there is no where else to turn, those goods and services necessarily, necessarily, become more expensive and of lesser quality.  Their administration necessarily, necessarily, becomes more bloated and less efficient, until eventually, necessarily, necessarily, those goods and services collapse under their own weight.  And the populace necessarily, necessarily, becomes more dependent, under greater control, and LESS FREEShow me otherwise!

Health care anyone?*

Jay, Thanks.  Health Care will have major challenges, like finding a Doctor .

Many Canadians do not have a family doctor, good luck to you and your fellow Americans.

Stay Healthy, its your best defence.

That's because they are all practicing in the US, Nor, so they can make some money!  But, wait a bit, if this mess goes through they will all be back and you will have your family doctors again!

Jay - one of the errors of statists and wealth distributionists is blaming a system for the greed of a few. They fail to acknowledge that the greedy, the immoral, the crooks are found on both sides of the ideology boundaries. And too often they try to make rules which then make it more beneficial for the greedy and immoral. Just look at TARP (yeah, signed off by Bush but written by Pelosi, Reid, Obama, etc.)

Good post Jay....I can't understand how anyone can think federal intrusion makes a healthy economy.  I thought we had Anti-Trust laws to prevent Monopolies, isn't that what the government wants to become; only one place to get your goods and services.  Talk about limiting competition!

Health care in Mass, signed off by Romney and he left before the band-aids hit the fan.

Everything to be taxed went up and the state still can't afford it.

When government gets involved it is usually no good for anyone

Enjoy the day

Jay,

I think the last couple years have many people thinking about the role of government and when is it too much intrusion. Based on what I see, it looks like big government is not very popular.

Mike - I would agree with all that.  What most also don't recognize is that the greedy do not last long.  Any free market will recognize them for who they are and grind them out of business as people take their money elsewhere.

When the gubment does it, Lois, it isn't monopoly.   It's service!  C'mon, get real!

Don - my understanding is that that program morphed significantly from what was originally intended.  But, nonetheless, any intrusion into the free, voluntary market of any good or service throws off the whole system.

For sure, Steve, but are people waking up fast enough?  Have things gone too far?  Is the debt too great or worse still, impossible to even manage much less pay off?

Jay - I think we're nearing the end of your "necessarilies," not a good place to be.  The composer, Bach wrote a piece called, "Sleepers Awake."  I think we better start playing it daily.

Mayhap John!  Maybe we are waking and hopefully in time.  More and more gets piled onto us daily by this bunch at the helm, if they really are there.

You're welcome Damon!  I love to research and put up these posts.  I never have anyone challenge them.  It would be much more fun.

Let me know when N. Korea puts out the next I-Pad or some other wonderful device that helps people.  Gee, why don't they?

Jay,

Miltie was right. Capitalism can't be improved upon - but that doesn't stop them from messing with it. :)
